A drunk cop from the New York Police Department accidentally shot his partner while showing off his revolver Thursday morning.

NYPD Detective Jay Poggi and his partner were en route to a crime scene when the two officers stopped at a Queens restaurant for drinks. After they got back in their squad car Poggi wanted to show his partner his .38-caliber revolver, but negligently discharged the weapon in the process. Poggi’s partner was shot in the wrist and Poggi rushed him to an area hospital, ABC reports.

The partner was treated for his wounds and was said to be in a stable condition. Poggi was arrested and charged with a DUI, but refused to submit to a breath-alcohol test. It was later determined Poggi’s blood-alcohol content was .113, but according to his lawyer, he was just trying to save his partner’s life.

It was an accident. An old episode of Arsenio came on TV and his partner started saying "Woof woof woof!"

Worker's comp claim.

Union should jump in and defend the DUI.

You gotta be acting like a real a-hole to negligently discharge a revolver.

Bloomberg needs to take action so guns don't end up in the wrong hands--like the NYPD.

It must give NYers a warm and fuzzy feeling that idiots like this are allowed to carry a firearm

I would feel much safer if only the police had firearms.

Not really 'drinks' per se. Just a couple of shots

The shooting would have been justifiable if his partner was a K9.

You know how on Black Ops, someone will release a pack of dogs on you? I bet cops just blow through that stage.

I really can't decide which part of this is worse- the obvious lack if control folder his weapon, or the fact that 2 cops decided to stop for drinks On the way to a crime scene or the fact that once there they stayed long enough to get drunk. The whole thing is just unbelievable.

I was trying to save his life which is why I shot him. It stopped him from driving through the hoods where the injuries would have been far greater.
