Oregon folds Obamacare website, throws in the towel

Cover Oregon on Friday became the first casualty of the state-run ObamaCare exchanges, as officials formally gave up the fight to offer residents a state health care portal. Instead, Oregon, which has been hemorrhaging millions of dollars on a barely functioning website that has failed to sign up a single person, is turning to the federal government for an out.
Cover Oregon’s full board approved the recommendations made Thursday by an advisory committee to fold its troubled portal and use the federal HealthCare.gov for private policies.
The state initially paid $134 million to Oracle Corp. to build its online exchange. Cover Oregon also spent more than $3 million on marketing the site, which included radio, television and YouTube ads, spokeswoman Ariane Holm told FoxNews.com last year.
Imagine how many poeple you could insure for 134 million dollars!

That says "initially". Is that the final tally?
Also, don't forget the $3 million in advertising.

Screw insurance, how many people with actual maladies could be treated for that? We have this arse backwards. We need to reign in costs, not subsidize inflation.

I blame their teabagging governor for sabotaging Obamacare. Oregon hates poor people and wants a black President to fail. If they had given a good faith effort it would have worked.

Ya know, it occurs to me that forgetting the OP a second, Obama and his supporters have sort of gotten away with a fast one on the subject of the ACA.
Namely, when they tell us how much the ACA has cost to implement, I'm reasonable certain that they are NOT including the costs the states have taken up on things such as setting up their own exchanges.

Serious question, did Oracle frick this up or did Oregon?
Obamacare is terrible legislation, but I can't imagine that a company with the reputation of Oracle couldn't get the website up to par, unless they just weren't given the resources to succeed.

At 200/month for a year you could insure over 55000 people.

There are plenty of flaws with the ACA but that's just irresponsible for the state to waste that much money on a website.

I mean, I get that, but come on. Oracle builds financial systems that are just as intricate.

I would put my money on Oregon.
Oregon wanted one site to handle not just Obamacare but every government subsidy available.
Thats a lot of gov't departments to tie together.
They went too big.

Same here. Damn state has a knack for blowing money. Talking about a state that gets millions in income tax dollars annually from WA residents (who only use the roads, no other services) who work here yet the state constantly has money issues.
Love the state, hate the idiots in control of the local government.

Their first mistake was to hire Oracle.

Oregon has carried the Democratic Party every POTUS election since 1988. I can't imagine why the liberals can't manage a budget and rely on others to come in and help.
