Old man strength. Fact or Fiction? If so, when or at what age does it happen? and why?

I think it begins at the age when a man learns you use his head more than his muscles and therefore uses his muscles smarter

I'm not interested in lifting much these days. If rather step over or walk around something in my way than pick it up and out it back down just for shits and giggles.

I would assume when you're so old you can no longer rely on your ability to get a boner, the constant state of rage makes you stronger.

First, 30 is damned young. At 59, I might not be what I was at 30, but you learn to do a better job planning and pacing yourself. Combine that with having more status and financial security at this age, and you can have a pretty fricking good life. I'm divorced and go through a new girlfriend, usually at least 10 years younger than me, about every three months. I can enjoy one of my boats when I want to or even get out at two in the morning. Kids are on their own. Bottom line, life is what you make of it at any age. :-)

Fact. Mine started in my late 20's. I can slam some youngsters arm wrestling. I can't lift nearly what I used to weight wise, but my functional strength is much greater.

There's a 61 year old guy- ended up being a friend of mine- at our gym who can flat bench the 120 lb. dumbells. He can hit 225 regular bench 6 times.

Normal size, not fat or swole- but the dude can lift. IMO Old Man Strenght exists.

I can't speak to if it is fact across the board, but it damned sure happened with me. I worked out like an MFer when I was in HS and as a young adult. Then, a couple of injuries got me off track and I didn't really get back on the horse until I was 31. By the time I was 33, I was lifting substantially more in every key lift than I ever had as a young man.

Side note. I also started playing Adult League baseball(I was in Hawaii) and did so in the young age group. There were kids in that league who had pitched at the college level including UH. In HS, I was a good hitter who in three years, NEVER hit a HR. Facing former college pitchers, I hit several home runs(although still not what you'd call a power hitter).

Why does this happen? No F'n idea.

Now, the bad news. I'm 47 now and um, the old man strength seems to be fading despite still being a gym regular.

I'm in my late 30's. Did get more muscular in my 30's and didn't change what I've been doing over the years. I'll go with fact.
