Two Douglas County women have been arrested after they allegedly put a 6-year-old boy in a small dog crate and poured syrup and kitty litter on him
The child's mother, Crystal Jean Hostetter, 24, and her girlfriend, Sarah Elizabeth McClain, 30, both of Douglasville were both charged with cruelty to children.

According to Douglasville police, a neighbor of the home on Hagin Street witnessed the incident on Saturday and called the Department of Children and Family Services emergency hotline.

After not getting through to anyone, on Monday the neighbor called the child's school and school officials contacted DFACS.

According to police, Hostetter and McClain locked the boy in a small dog cage for hours, poured syrup and cat litter on his hands and feet and made him hold a brick over his head.

Douglasville Police Chief Chris Womack said the boy suffers from a condition and doesn't like sticky things.

While inside the cage, the child allegedly began screaming, "Please don't kill me."

Officials said the women claimed they were disciplining him.

Police said the home was covered in fleas from their three cats.

The couple moved to Douglasville from Pennsylvania on March 1 and police are looking into whether there have been reports in Pennsylvania of similar punishments.LINK

Well at least they didn't spank him. That would encourage more bad behavior.

I mean, who didn't play "human litter box" growing up as a kid.

The thrill of the box, the crusseling of the grit, the stickiness of the syrup...

Ah, those were the days.

Was he hurt?

Where is the cruelty here? Very odd form of punishment but is this really any worse than sitting in a bathroom for an hour with a bar of lava soap in your mounth or getting caught smoking and having to smoke a whole carton or until you vomite? All that was long accepted and now you cant even go around caging your kids..

Story in Douglas County Centinal

quote:

“This child already has mental issues that they are aware of,” Garner (Police Sgt.) said. “He has been hospitalized,... He’s supposed to be on three different medications that she has not filled or given him. In our conversation, I asked her, ‘You just think that you know more than the doctors?’ She said yes.”

quote:

“She has also gone to the point of taking his bed out and making him sleep on the floor because he slept on the floor one night. So she said, ‘If you don’t like your bed, you cannot have it,’ and put it in the garage as well.”

quote:

“He told me he doesn’t like peanut butter,” Garner said. “He doesn’t like jelly. He doesn’t like anything that’s sticky. It just bothers him and the mother knows this. She said that’s why they coated his hands and feet with syrup and put cat litter on him because as she said, ‘I knew it would bother him.’”
