Jeb Bush said Wednesday he's "thinking about running for president," in his most direct statement yet about a possible 2016 run.

The former Florida governor spoke at a Catholic school benefit in New York Wednesday morning. He previously has said he'll make a decision on whether to run for president before the end of this year, making clear that he was considering the possibility.

But his comments on Wednesday appeared to be more direct. Asked what his "immediate plans" were, he said, according to an attendee: "I'm thinking about running for president."

The answer was met with applause and a standing ovation, after which Bush said: "Can someone call my mother so she can hear this?" the source told FoxNews.com.

If you aren't being sarcastic, I will lose all respect for you.

It would be a slaughter, the likes of which we have never seen.

Assuming this would be a different result than any other Republican nominee, what do you base your opinion on?

His last name.

There is no chance in hell a Bush would get elected. Period. Zero. None. Nein.

The only way possible would be if the Democrat candidate turned out to be the reincarnation of Jack the Ripper, brought Steve Jobs back from the dead, and then killed him again on live television while shaking hands with the owners of every major oil company on the planet, while also mocking the gays and minorities.

Then it might be close.

I'm not so sure about that. People love a good story of redemption.

And when the big donors look at the other options, well...

Jeb just has to say the word.

You are either buying into who the progressives want the Republican candidate to be, and actually believe them, or you actually think posting stuff like the OP will convince Republicans to support a terrible candidate so the Democrat candidate will have an easier road to the WH.

Either one is hilarious.

Take your pick.

You actually do believe what you are writing, don't you?

PLEASE tell me it's option 2.

I think you're overstating this. He has the multi-racial family thing going. He could pick up 40% of the Hispanic vote.

The dems could nominate the grand dragon of the kkk and he would beat jeb by 20 points in the general!!! If it was Jeb vs Hillary, i'd consider HILLARY OR SUICIDE BEFORE BUSH!!!!

Don't sleep on Jeb Bush just yet.

I agree it's going to take a lot after what W did to the last name, but he had a good record as the Governor of Florida. He's got the connections for money as Decauter noted. Once people get to know Jeb and not his last name, the perception MAY change.

And? After what his brother did to the Republican Party, you actually believe he has the ability to challenge someone the likes of Clinton?

I honestly believe y'all are crazy.

Hillary is praying the GOP trots this guy out. He would just be another uninspired and more of the same pick from the GOP. We've tried guys like him the last two elections, they can GTFO.

Anyway, Jeb vs Hillary will be more of the same two party warfare. Go ahead and vote for that sheep.

First of all, no he won't. Hispanics do not vote as a solid block like blacks do. Secondly, his base would not support him. If you thought McCain had trouble among the base, McCai's numbers would look like Reagan's next to Jeb's. ZERO independents would vote for him because of his last name and last name only. He's a loser.

And the Republican Party is killing itself with stagnation and the inability to pull in independents. They also can't get their own base to vote.

Now, let's remember, the majority of voters are morons. You throw the name Bush out there, and you lost before you even started.

He's even more liberal than George W which is quite a feat. George W is basically Obama lite.

How is that going to inspire the base with conservatives and libertarians who are tired of guys like him being the pick?

The perception of W has improved dramatically over the last six years.

I'm not saying I want him to run, but if he did he would pick up every state Romney won and add in Florida.
