On any given day, tourists pay nearly $100 per person to get into Orlando's theme parks. There, they may be waited on by homeless parents. From their hotels, they jog past bus stops where homeless children wait to head to school. They buy coffee at Starbucks next to the motels that have become families' homes.

Starting minimum pay at Walt Disney World — the area's largest employer, just a few miles from the motels — is $8.03 an hour, though that could increase to $10 under a contract being negotiated with the resort's largest union group.

Damn the mouse!!!! Time for the gov to step in and take over Disney!

In this Tuesday, April 8, 2014 photo, Theresa Muller prepares to move out of her motel room she shares with her boyfriend, father and three children

Not to be crude, but why do you think someone who tears tickets for a living should make more than $10/hour?

They don't even tear tickets anymore. They used ot swipe card, but now there's a magic band and the guest just moves their hand over a sensor.

You know the worst part about that picture? She has a boyfriend and children, meaning someone sleeps with her.

Also, she has a shitload of crap lying around.

Two things:

1) You don't have to work at Disney
2) You don't have to be uneducated

Both things are the fault of the people working at Disney and are unhappy with their pay.

Can't get a better job? Why? Who's at fault here?

Surely not Disney's? Not mine either, right?

Again... Who's at fault here?

Change that to "sell water," "monitor lines," or any of the other of hundreds of unskilled jobs at Disney World.

So, the first example is of a family that moved to this county and can't afford to live there. The article states that many of the county's homeless moved there. Were they doing fine at their prior destination? Could they move somewhere else where housing is cheaper.

The article states that median rent is $800/month, but people pay as little as $39/night in hotels instead. That comes out to over $1000/month. Are these people just stupid?

I hate to stereotype, not really, but the picture of that woman makes me believe she has a high school diploma at best.

Unless apartments near Orlando are absurdly expensive, I don't see how two people couldn't afford a residence.

Living in a hotel is much more expensive, anyway.

I can't remember the last time I saw an article so devoid of logic, reason, and even basic understanding of arithmetic. It's really from an AP writer?
