Will demographics doom the state's potential oil and gas economic boom?

Just strolling through Lakeside mall or watching the news you can tell we have a demographic timebomb. Where are the needed skilled workers (non bachelors degree) going to come from? We can't import them all. Or maybe we will. I think this is the Achilles heal that no one seems to be talking about.
ETA: To make sure I don't get banned let me add, this isn't a racial thing. We have a ton of older people of all races on welfare sagging the state's budget, and younger citizens (of all races) who are just being pushed through the public school system.

The answer is "man camps."

All the hispanics in Kenner will handle the work. You just went to the wrong mall to look for workers.

Seems like you'd want the bulk of those new engineers, managers, and professionals to stick around.
Is there a lot of single family housing being developed now in Lake Charles and the area between Baton Rouge and LaPlace?

MF'in this! As a teacher, I'm so sick of this I could puke. The kids know that they don't have to pay attention or do anything. Heck, you CAN"T fail a student in K-3 unless the parent requests it. Where do kids get the basic skills that they need to succeed as they move along? K-3. Makes a lot of sense, huh?

LA is filled with O&G workers. When I worked in the Permian and Eagle Ford there were tons of people from LA, same thing when I worked in the Bakken. All those boys will just come back home.
You'll also have a lot of people leave their little bullshite Wal-Mart jobs or whatever and go get real jobs. We'd have no problems finding and making good hands down here.

They will be imported fa sho. The fact is people are lazy here. You make enough off of the government to live comfortably, why work and make a little more money?
Every time there is a demand for workers, they come.

This. Some parts of the country (midwest rustbelt) have shortages of good jobs right now. They'll come

It's not really a demographic problem and it's not just an La problem. Nobody prepared for this boom properly or had any good skilled craft training program in place.
Read the "man camp" thread that was on here for about 7 pages yesterday.
Here is a good article about some of the issues. LINK

Are you specifically speaking of plant expansions/plant growth?

LA is not ND, we won't need man camps. There's enough housing here to begin with. It would be very similar to South TX.

Go read that other thread. Lake Charles will most def have housing shortages.
And to the OP, don't make future economic assumption about our state based on people you see in a shopping mall.

Yea, I agree with that but I thought the TMS is mainly on the northern side of Lake Pontchartrain and in southern Miss.? The "oil boom", which isn't going to happen IMO, would be more in eastern LA.

So you went to Lakeside Mall, saw that it was a bunch of middle aged and elderly ladies, and somehow decided that this is reflective of Louisiana's demographics as a whole?
For what it's worth, based on the last census Louisiana is the 7th youngest state by median age (this chart shows 8th but includes DC).

interesting.
How people can complain about not being able to find a job is beyond me.

It's not about TMS, it's all of the new construction and shite all around lake Charles. Several new plants and expansions going to happen in next three years
