@DanWetzel: Lance Stephenson-Evan Turner fistfight before G1 of playoffs. Pacers are a mess. @WojYahooNBA column: LINK

quote:

INDIANAPOLIS – On the eve of this Eastern Conference series, the wobbling No. 1 seed punctuated its final playoff preparations in a most self-destructive way: Two Indiana Pacers dragged a cursing, cut Evan Turner out of the Bankers Life Fieldhouse court, untangling him from a practice-floor fistfight with teammate Lance Stephenson.

These two guards have struggled together since the deadline deal brought Turner from Philadelphia to Indiana. Suddenly, Turner is learning to play without the ball in his hands, and Stephenson is relearning the balance of passing and shooting. Truth be told, there were probably Pacers willing to let Stephenson and Turner beat the dribble out of each other. Still, Luis Scola and David West finally grabbed an enraged Turner and separated Stephenson.

If the scrape had been symptomatic of greater tensions within the Pacers, it's also clear this has been a full team collapse and will need to be a full team recovery.

WTF?

Well they won game two by nearly 20 so this doesn't matter.

Did the Granger trade really kill the team chemistry?

I can't stand the Pacers but they always seemed like a really close team and to trade Granger for a younger version of himself in the midst of what was supposed to be "their" year was baffling to me?

The trade would have made more sense if the Pacers weren't contenders and planning for the future not the present

The Pacers are the most emotionally fragile team in the history of the league if trading a guy who was a shell of himself for a guy who gets his in garbage time completely ruined their chemistry.

when they announced the trade, all I could say is why? One of those 'if it aint broke' things to me

Team was chugging along and playing great. Then the trade. Never understood it. I know Turner was an upgrade, I just don't understand the move. Just shook the team up it seemed.

I do want them to win but I think they will look back at the trade as their own undoing. just my opinion though

The speculated reason was to give the team leverage in trade negotiations with Lance Stephenson, no wonder they don't like each other.

I find it funny that when the trade was made everyone was raving at how good of a deal it was.

Now, every poster is thundering in to tell us that as soon as they made the trade, they had all kinds of questions.

Hmm...

Also, if true, this is one of many reasons the Pacers are melting down, but let's not act like players punching each other is the worst thing ever and a sign that a team has completely collapsed. It's not that rare, at all.

Paul George started drinking the kool aid, Lance turned into irrational confidence Lance, and Hibbert clogged the lane for his own guards while taking poor shot after poor shot.

PG shooting 39% post all star break and regressing towards the mean had the most to do with this slide imo

I haven't followed it closely but apparently players fighting could be the least of the Pacers problems. There's talk of replacing Vogle, front-office issues, Andrew Bynum! Seems like shites gettin real son

There's a big misconception, I think, that the Pacers were still rolling along before the trade. They hit some bumps in late January and just before the trade, as well, and the offense was slowing down even more than its normal pace. Granger just wasn't the same player any longer.

Stephenson/Turner hating each other, as this suggests, explains a lot of the recent problems. There were some before the trade, too, though.

Jordan used to bully and beat up his teammates. Maybe this is the start of a dynasty for Indy.

First, we see if they win or lose, then we shape the story around it. That's how the media does it!!!
