Just thought I would spur a discussion today not involving David Moyes.

I find it interesting that some have announced publicly that they think the US will do well. Raymond Domenech thinks the US makes the quarters (although honestly this probably hurts our case more than helps it), while Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (former Bayern and West German striker, current BM executive) thinks the US is the favorite to get out of the group, with Germany.

Get 4 points out of the first 2 games and hope Germany is safe with 6 points by game 3 and rest some important players.

Germany beating Portugal big would help also.

I think Joy getting hot would help big time. When he was in form and had that goal streak going, we looked pretty impressive as a team.

The back line MUST be in sync and competent. I have faith we can score on Ghana and Portugal but we cannot allow early goals and give up backbreakers when we have the momentum.

Bradley has to be able to push forward. That's when we're the most dangerous. I don't like the way him and JJ play together.

1. Beat Ghana, beat/draw Portugal

2. Ghana beats/draws with Portugal

3. Uncle Sam's giant eagle cock proceeds to wreak havoc in Round of 16.

It's no question we can't lose one of our 1st 2 games, and desperately need at least 4 points. Everybody is saying we need to beat Ghana. Honestly, I think we tie Ghana and beat Portugal. They have some amazing players there's no question, but if you can contain CR (which obviously is not easy), you can neutralize Portugal.

An extremely organized defensive team that is capable of nicking a goal or two on the counter or set pieces.

frick, we're done.

Honestly, I have no idea why people are picking us, outside of being different. Maybe they think we are best suited for the humid climate . I really don't know.

I agree. Need to be in sync and avoid bad early luck against Ghana. Need Ronaldo to be out of sync with the rest of Portugal.

I think with a little luck and a massive game from Howard we can get 3 points from Germany's 2nd team.

I do wonder where our goals are going to come from. Dempsey's a wild card for me. He could be great and he could be a net negative for the whole tournament.
According to Rog Bennett, we have nothing to worry about re: Jozy for the World Cup. I hope he's right, because like someone said, we are our best when he's in form. We've seen Zusi put in lots of good service, but I want Landon on the field too. The composition of the front 4 (assuming we go 4-2-3-1) will be very interesting.

He's not going to leave Dempsey out of the starting 11 I assume, so is it possible we see Landon-Deuce-Zusi behind Altidore?

I think Landon will be our top scorer again. There's something about the WC that just brings out a crazy confidence in him. I feel better knowing that he is on the pitch if we go down a goal. His calmness is contagious.

I really think Jozy surprises some people in Brazil. He had a pretty solid showing in South Africa even though he wasn't in good club form at the time.

Don't let TNBhoy hear that.

If I had to take a guess I would say this is what we go with.

We have to beat Ghana, or team morale will go to shite with the quickness.

Solving this problem and we have a chance.

The first 30 minutes of every match is paramount for the good guys.

I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned figuring out a good CB pairing. We can't allow for defensive lapses like we have in the past. Sometimes our backs look so disorganized, and that is very frustrating.

Like many have said, we need 4 points out of the first 2. Really need Germany to get 6 points early and rest guys. It would be nice if portugal v Ghana ended in a tie.

As for our team. I like going with Alitdore, Donovan, Zusi and Dempsey in the front, but like cwill said, it will be up to the back line to really lock it up. I don't feel confident that we can get 3 or 4 goals in a game so we have to keep the scores down.

Im okay if we bunker in a little and try to counter for most the tournament.

I think if we can secure 5 points, we'll definitely be through.

What we're realistically looking for is 4 points and for either Ghana or Portugal to melt.

Besler is the only lock in our pool. Next best is Gonzalez then Goodson. We are really thin at CB.

Besler-Gonzalez, regardless of their lapses, is far and away the best pairing
