NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The United Auto Workers announced Monday it is withdrawing its appeal of the outcome of a union vote at Volkswagen's assembly plant in Tennessee.
In a statement released one hour before the scheduled start of a National Labor Relations Board hearing in Chattanooga, Tenn., UAW President Bob King said the union decided to abandon the challenge because it could have taken months or even years to come to a conclusion.
"The UAW is ready to put February's tainted election in the rearview mirror and instead focus on advocating for new jobs and economic investment in Chattanooga," King said.

i wonder what the german labor rep is going to do in response. he got a lot of pub in off brand liberal news outlets for his comments (which were used to imply he was speaking for the whole board)

I love the thought process:
UAW: congratulations, we've afforded you the right to vote whether you want to be unionized.
Workers: ok, we'll vote. Nope. No union for us
UAW: well that's wrong, we're appealing the vote that we gave you!

How about waiting an hr before the hearing to drop the case??? Talk about a fricking waste of Taxpayer dollars.
They could have dropped this a week ago.

Obama will use his pen after the mid-terms and take care of the UAW.

You should all be happy that they are allowed the choice to unionize but made a decision not to even with their own employer pushing for organization.
The workers got what they wanted. That should be the end of it.....but it wasn't.
The UAW has a major image problem. Most articles reporting on this process mention how important it is for the union to expand into foreign transplants in the south and how desperate they are for new membership. Very little is mentioned about what benefits there are to the employees who choose to pay those dues. That doesn't even touch the fact that the UAW is in bed with only one political party....one that is seen as way out of touch with an average working man in this part of the country. You can't grease only one wheel in this political climate and expect universal acceptance.
VW did not apply for tax breaks made available for them to expand their plant before the Tennessee legislative session adjourned. The UAW hissy fit caused this delay and upset a lot of people. The plans were to add a line for a new mid sized SUV to compete with the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chevy Equinox. Hopefully those plans are still in the works for VW-Chattanooga.

well don't forget, the DEMs also support the UAW to get those signups to vote DEM, down the road. it's parasitic on both ends

If they want to be welcomed with open arms in the south, they need to rethink the political causes and candidates that they back.
Even if Joe Bleaux actually wants to consider organization does not mean he's willing to pay dues to a cog in the political machine that supports abortion, gun control, etc.

This is actually true. Unions might actually make some headway with conservatives(small c type) if they began to make a serious focus on crony capitalism and did so without regard to politics. IE, not selectively.
Sure, that wont necessarily play with old school Republicans(or democrats of course), but, I think people understimate how many of us are out there that simply wants government to get out of the meddling business.
Unions could stop being anti-corp so damned much and be more anti-corp in bed with govt/vice versa a bit more. If they did this across the board, and stopped being so obviously for only one party, some might actually start to notice.
