How can the current projected low for the day be warmer than the current temperature?

This is one of those questions my wife asks me. Really makes me glad I am a man and can use common sense.

No such thing as stupid questions, just stupid people asking questions.

Go reread the question slowly bc your explanation doesn't have anything to do with the question asked.

here's how a forecast works:

High Temp - forecasted high for the peak of the day (noon-3 PM?)
Low Temp - low for that night

the forecasted low has zero to do with the temperature from the night before. It is all about the low for that night.

so, it can be 60 degrees right now, but the low for tonight can be 68 degrees.

So, it's actually the lowest temperature between noon and midnight?

nope...it's more like noon and 7 AM the next day, or whatever time the sun comes out and starts warming the Earth.

meh, the whole point is for helping people plan for overnight. I'm sure this whole thing started around helping farmers and the agriculture business. They need to know if it is going to freeze and it helps by giving the low for the entire morning as if it is that night.

most people are confused when they see a forecast 3-4 days out though. Could be cut and dry but why involve logic

i wouldn't make the assumption that most people are as confused by something as simple as a weather forecast. Prior to this thread, I thought this was common sense. In fact, this is the first time that I've ever heard someone question the low temperature. It is pretty obvious that the Earth will continue to cool until the Sun begins to warm it again.

Yeah, why would anyone want to know what the temperature is going to be in the morning?

you know the low can be during the day right? or the high can be in the morning?

Bottom line is they could leave no doubt by saying the low for tuesday will be 30 and that low not be actually wed morning....just say wednesday.

I say most because I hear people all the time question...does that mean tues night or wed night.
