Take the one by highland/lee. Is water actually in them, and if so, how much water do they hold?

I realize these are probably stupid questions.

Yes, they have water in them. The water wells pump the water out of the ground and up into those holding tanks. The rest of the system is essentially gravity fed as much as possible from those tanks.

Yes

Enough

You do realize that even if it weren't water, it would hold the same amount?

The one in Highland and Lee has a ladder "cage" right up the center of it all the way out the top. Pretty claustrophobic going up it. Think it is only like a 36" tube, can't remember, would have to look at the drawings.

Highly illegal to even get in the fenced in area, think it is a federal crime now and you could be looking at some serious jail time.

A good way to find the highest part of a town is to look for the tower

Huge top tank, the stem is empty except or some piping.

I would guess maybe 250k-500k gallons.

Yes they hold water.

They are basically set up to keep pressure in the lines

I know that shreveport has (3) 5 million gallon underground tanks at the water plant as a backup if needed.

Do they use anti-gravity to keep the pressure up?

When I was a kid, the one at Highland/Lee wasn't fenced and there was always graffiti on the lower part. Husband said he remembers people climbing it was he was growing up too.
