I pulled the trigger and went ahead and bought one of the 10/22 takedown tactical rifles. This is an absolutely awesome rifle in terms of its portability and usefullness. I have not yet been able to take it shooting (I live in suburban Atlanta) so havent had that pleasure yet.

I had a question in regarrds to optics on 10/22's. I am a very new shooter, so should I be trying to fine tune my shooting with iron sights or would it be recommended that I get an optic? If so, what kind should I be going with? Any recommendations are much appreciated!

Kind of defeats the purpose of a takedown if you attach a scope and it no longer fits in the bag it comes in, but I like any of the .22 scopes from Nikon, Leupold, Redfield

I bought Tech Sights for my Marlin 795 and really like them.

I bought a camo Takedown. You need a scope that's about 8 inches or less in length for it to fit in the bag.

Great purchase. A 10-22 is the ultimate survival gun. Be sure and get a couple of the large capacity magazines "Ruger" brand.

Some indoor shooting ranges will allow you you to shoot a .22 rifle
on it. You might want to check around.

How well does it say zeroed when the barrel and the receiver (where the scope is attached) are separate?

Takedown rifle has a barrel nut that allows you to take out any play so holding zero isn't an issue.

Barrel goes back in the same exact position every time?

Changing ammo brands will have more effect on zero than reattaching the barrel properly.

Yep the range near me lets you shoot .22 on their pistol range.

I have two of the BX-25's and since it was "Ruger Day", they gave me a free one of those double BX-25's for free. I paid $299 after the Ruger Day discount too. Hell of a deal.

You must have just wanted to type that word since there is nothing in my statement that is talking about being all cool and tactical. I wanted to know what if anything I should put on a new rifle.

Hope you find an actual use for your word somewhere.

I think what he means is that a 10/22 becomes a money pit like other 1911s, ARs, AKs, etc. since they are fun as shite and easily customizable.

Congrats on your new rifle.

Pretty much any post involving a gun on the OB is a good application of the word "tacticool"

To answer your question, if you're going to be shooting cans in the yard leave it open sight. It's more fun. If you're going to be killing stuff with it, a cabelas pine ridge 4x32 scope is a good buy.
