Here’s How Mobile Phones Worked in 1959

I remember my grandfather's car having a phone in 1964. I don't know when he got it installed.

Those phones are crazy. Basically they are VHF radios. Almost like a CB. You "call" a broadcast station on the radio, at the station they have an operator who patches you through to a telephone operator who connects your call.
I wonder how long it took to get a connection.
