Another EBR tax renewal to be held with nothing else on the ballot.

From this morning's Advocate ;
Early voting starts Saturday for the May 3 election that features renewals of two property tax propositions to maintain the pay of East Baton Rouge Parish schoolteachers and other school employees.
Once again the people in charge carefully select an Election Day to insure a low turnout .
BREC did it a few weeks ago and now the EBR School Board is doing the same thing . They know the lower the turnout the better their chances to win.

Every branch of the city government across the board should be run by one council ruling it with compliance to the recommendations from a city manager. Eliminate every one of the separate fiefdoms that individuals rule overgranted to them from a system put in place since Woody Dumbass was mayor. The library he built is now forty years later being called(by the library board) as obsolete and needs to be replaced(19 million cost) even when no one uses the thing used now.

quote:Technically not an accurate statement if you live in Fire District #6 in that unincorporated part of EBR.
with nothing else on the ballot.

Voters in the nearly 17-square-mile Fire Protection District 6 in East Baton Rouge Parish will decide May 3 whether to renew a property tax that helps cover payroll, fire hydrant rental fees and other district expenses.
The 10-mill tax up for renewal brings in more than $264,000 annually.
The renewal would take effect in 2015 and continue through 2024.

Any reasonable EBR school tax on a ballot needs to be passed. BR schools have the lowest tax rates of all 4 cities within EBR.

I'm opposed to having numerous elections specifically to renew or pass taxes.
Without knowing more about these taxes, I think I'd vote to renew them.

With no current kids and with every intention to send future kids to private school, I will certainly be voting against this tax. Thanks for the heads up.

You do realize poor local schools hurt everyone in the area. The includes you and your kids even if they don't attend public schools.
