Talking about outboards w/ hose pipe connection for flushing.
Which do y'all do:
•Flush with hose connection only
•Use earmuffs and run outboard
•Combination of both
???

If it has hose connection that's all you have to use.

My E-tec manual says hook up hose and flush. Not necessary to run engine.

I run it on muffs if I've been in saltwater. Use the flush port if it's in the water or if I've been running the rivers.
Mines an opti tho and I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to run it on the flush port.

If you use the hose connection, do NOT run the motor while flushing.

Meh, ran a whole can of sea foam thru my Yamaha using the hose port. Worked great.

If I had a connection I wouldn't use the muffs. But if you use the muffs you have to run the motor so that the pump will push the water through the system. Still, if there is a port, use the port.

From my understanding, the hose connection is up at the top of the water system so water pressure from your house is enough force to flush the entire system. With the muffs, you have to run the motor to get enough pressure to push water to the top of the motor.
On another note, I recently flushed my motor with the hose connection, and where the hose connection tees in to the water system came loose and filled the whole cover with water . Luckily, I saw it had quit pissing just in time. Didn't get any water in the intake.

I do have a pair of hose fitting for flushing Optimax motors somewhere if anyone needs them. To me, I always are them on muffs. To me, the T stat has to open to flush the motor.
