A California deputy accidentally shot himself while trying to kill a dog that he said was threatening his life on Wednesday, but video captured by a local television station later showed the animal much smaller than reported and peacefully playing with children.

quote:

When KNBC film crews arrived on the scene later on Wednesday, they found a medium-sized pit bull — named “Precious” — confined to a pen, and calmly playing with several children. The dog’s owner admitted that it had been barking when the officer arrived.

Conflicted. I mean, it's a pit bull..

Dogs have a right to self defense.

So who poses a bigger threat to the deputy? The small-medium sized dog that made noise, or the deputy himself.

Maybe he should just off himself in order to defend himself...from himself

so if they found no evidence of wrong doing from the family or dog, by proxy we can assume that the officer will be disciplined for discharging his gun so haphazardly right?

The local version of a Purple Heart will be given to him along with psychological counseling to help him to kill dogs with due care in the future.

I guess the sound of gunfire followed by blood flowing from the cop made the dog think twice about killing the cop.

It is a very good thing that Barney was not armed with a Glock or similar semi-auto. The population of Mayberry would be getting lower by the day with his deft of unholstering a six shooter.

I sweat that it's become so common that you have to assume there is some training out there that has become common in police departments opening the door for them being trigger happy.

When it comes to dogs, these guys have become the biggest scaredy cats of all time.
