Is everyone underestimating the 2014 LSU football offense?

By all accounts, it seems like most media outlets expect this offense to revert back to 2009/2010 levels of ineptness. While I'm no fool to expect either Harris or Jennings to come in and reproduce Mettenbergers productivity, I still think we will be able to move the ball efficiently and effectively.

Take a look at this offensive line. 4/5 starters return from arguably one of the best offenses in LSUs recent history. We're adding the #1 player in the country at RB, two extremely talented and game ready WRs, and a QB who has gone through all of spring, summer, and fall learning the system who will fight for PT. Add that to a group of talented receivers looking to prove themselves and some veterans in Magee and Hilliard to solidify the backfield.

I think Cameron will be testing the waters on how far he can push this offense in the beginning of the year that will set the tone for the rest of the season. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the offense wins us a couple games this year.

Agree 100%.

I'm feeling way more confident in our QBs and I think it should just be plug and play.

I also think that OBJ and Landry are definitely replaceable and that the talent will be there for production in the passing game.

ETA: Their production will be replaceable. I didn't convey that correctly. I meant that with the talent that will surround whoever starts at QB, we will still be able to throw the ball and that there won't just be 2 reliable options for our QB.

It will be more like the 2012 offense, not spectacular but not horrible like the 2010 O.

The quarterbacks don't have to play amazing. Just like in 2011, as long as they don't shite the bed we will be fine.

hopefully they contribute a shite ton.

how can you say people are underestimating an offense that at every skill position you are relying on true freshmen to carry the load? has that ever been done in the SEC?

best case scenario is this year's offense being as productive as last year's defense. if the offense is that productive i would be fricking ecstatic. The possibility is there for us to suck - you have to admit that.

i'm far from a doom and gloom tiger fan BTW but this honestly looks like a challenging year on offense. Year after should be nails though.

I disagree. I think we have a ton of veteran leadership along the O-line and in the backfield. Dural will be a RS soph along with guys like Peterson and Diarse.

I think the only true freshman well rely very heavily on to win games will be Fournette, and I mean, I don't think that's a stretch to say he can do that for us. If Harris ends up starting, you can say him, but again, he'll have been in the program since January, not like he's really a "true" freshman.

Again, I'm not expecting huge numbers, but I just don't think well be unable to be an explosive offense at times either.

There's no body of work to really know. I was encouraged by the spring game. I thought we were further along than I expected.

Fournette will be ready, just like Marcus Lattimore was. The QBs should be serviceable to dynamic, with their ability to extend the play. A believe Dural will be a consistent playmaker, with Dupre, Quinn, and Leslie being able to hit big plays now and then.

Other teams undergo losses but maintain productive offenses. Maybe LSU can too. Shouldn't have to have a senior QB to be decent.

We have great receivers in Dupre and Quinn, and Dural seems like a #1 to me. We actually have two TEs that can catch the ball in Gordon and Smith. Fournette, Magee and Neighbors will be utilized in the pass game also. We have 4/5ths of a starting OL, and Cam's system involves heavy downfield passing.

People still forget that we have Cam coaching the QBs. Who knows what we have. Jennings could be the next Darren Thomas or Harris could be a breakout true freshman wonder like Christian Hackenburg. With 300 attempts as a cutoff point, I don't see us passing for less than 2600 yards.

I saw some stuff that could easily be fixed over the summer in the spring game. I think either QB could have a good year. I mentioned Dupre and Quinn, but I wouldn't be surprised if Diarse, Peterson, and/or Leslie gained some chemistry with the QBs over the offseason.

Let's see: we're losing our starting QB, 2 1000 yard receivers and a 1000 yard rusher.

Why in the hell would anyone underestimate LSU with just those four guys to replace?
