GOP fears executive order on biometric guns

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) is warning the Obama administration to not issue an executive order requiring that all new guns be made with biometric technology, such as finger-print recognition or bracelets.
Cornyn raised the issue in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, who in testimony earlier this month highlighted biometric bracelets and fingerprint identification as a safety issule.
Cornyn also asked Holder if the administration has any legal standing to make such a requirement on gun features, and expressed concern about how biometric guns could make it easier for the federal government to create a national gun owner database — something Cornyn said would violate privacy rights
“Will you assure my constituents and me that, under your supervision, the Department of Justice will not issue regulations requiring law-abiding citizens to equip their firearms with fingerprint-reading technology, or to link them to biometric bracelets?” Cornyn wrote.

Seems like an overreaction...
Even if he did:
1) Likely wouldn't be applicable to existing weapons
2) Likely wouldn't withstand judicial scrutiny
3) Would take years to put into place

Tomorrow, half of Fox viewers will actually believe Obama was going to issue this executive order.
Thank God for John Cornyn!

I believe it would be on new weapons.

Cornyn is not wrong in this instance but he's still a hypocritical douche for saying that creating a database on people would violate constitutional rights in this instance.

We can't even pass a photo ID law to vote on the federal level, and people believe the President would try this....with success..Stupid, as the law the would only affect good people. Just amazing how dumb this would be...

How would an executive order even apply here? There is no current law requiring that technology on new guns and gun manufacturers are private companies. Executive order can only carry out existing laws not create a new law. It wouldn't hold up in court.
He could issue an EO for that tech on all new military weapons but not for ones for private ownership

This could only apply to guns owned by the federal government right. Maybe he's just trying to prevent another Fast and Furious?

And yet it's one of the left's goals. Go figure.

But such restrictions would have to be a law passed by Congress.
The justice dept and president aren't lawmakers they can only enforce existing law
