I've had an original lifeproof and survivor+catalyst and both muffle your voice. I friend has a lifeproof without the screen cover and I can't stand taking to him on his phone because he sounds like he's in a tin can inside of a port-o-let inside a tunnel.

Are there any that don't suck?

Tell him to get out of a tin can inside a port-o-let inside a tunnel.

I have a better analogy: he sounds like the radar guy on space balls that keeps talking like he's on the microphone dark helmet takes the microphone.

And while I like going sans case, I'm prone to spiking my phone into the ground regularly. Plus I have two kids under 2 that like to grab and throw things.

Yea I can't do cases. Had a 3GS for 2 years that just had some scratches but I shattered my 4s on the front in back.

5c is going strong.

I have a thin one I bought at the apple store. Special stuff in it to absorb impact. Love it. Not bulky and I've dropped my phone numerous times with no damage.

Where were the lifeproof cases purchased? Gotta buy direct from lifeproof or a place that takes direct shipments from lifeproof (Best Buy). There are a shite ton of counterfeit lifeproofs out there that look identical to the real thing, but don't perform the same (echo and muffled voice).

You can open the case and call lifeproof with the serial numbers on the front and back halfs of the case and they will tell you if it's a lifeproof manufactured case or a counterfeit. My wife, my Mom, and I all have lifeproofs.....no muffled voice or any other issues. Purchased them all directly from lifeproof.

I've had Lifeproof cases on my 4, and now my 5, with no audio issues. I have the Nuud case on my 5 and love it.

Waterproof means sealed, which means the tiny microphone on the bottom of the phone will be covered. No matter how thin the material is (and it can't be too thin because plastics generally have some degree of water vapor permeability), you're going to have significant sound degradation. Unless you're working around water and need your phone on you at all times, I'd skip the water-proofing. Just set your phone down before you wipe and flush.

I use a low-profile/slim case that will at least protect the outer surface from everyday waist-high falls.

I also use a basic static-cling screen protector (that I change out every so often) to protect it from scratches. The screen protectors that are built into some cases are god awful.

I really only use this stuff for resale-ability. When I'm ready to upgrade, I peel off the screen protectors (front and back for iphones), remove the slim case or bumper, get it carrier unlocked, and then I have an unlocked phone in pristine condition to sell.

You Bought a life proof off the inter webs? Prob a fake. Call them with the serial number and verify it is authentic. There are a shitload out there that look real. They sound like shite. The only way to know is to call them. The originals don't spound bad at all

I like the waterproof feature because I never have to worry about it. If something spills on it, if my kid throws it in the tub, when I'm jogging and it rains of I sweat like the fatty I am, it's protected (all things that have happened). I could say it's because I'm always on the water but with two babies, who am I kidding.

I bought my Lifeproof from their website. I always opened the bottom door to talk. I just didn't like how the screen cover didn't sit flat. The survivor is nice but it's made of hard plastic which is starting to crack in some spots. I have to open the bottom door to talk on it as well.

The lifeproof nude looks and feels good, doesn't have the screen issue, but does have the muffle issue. I guess it's just something I'll deal with.
