After watching yet another IPO I had an opportunity to buy skyrocket, I'm wondering how others handle these offerings? Does your broker offer them to you? If so, what is your process for deciding which ones to buy in to?
I've basically sat on the sidelines. The farthest I've ever gotten was reading a prospectus.

I've never invested in an IPO because the overall success rate is low and the really "hot" IPO's are usually manipulated IMO. When FB started trading I knew they were going to hammer it because of the hype surrounding the offering. I would rather wait to see how an IPO trades intially then decide if I want to start a position. I wanted to buy FB after the initial bloodbath but got distracted and missed the run-up.

It's probably overpriced.
Imaginary Profits Only.
Idiotic, Preposterous, and Outrageous.
Althought I just bought SNOW, an IPO.

The issue with the IPO is the lack of proven track record. It's probably the biggest gamble when going long on individual equities.
Statements are hard to read, private information that is translated to public can be skewed, etc..
On top of this, institutions often stay away from many IPOs just because of the nature of the IPO.. regardless of whether it has a solid business model or not.

The stats would suggest being on the sidelines during an IPO is usually the best bet...

not a fan of IPOs but i'd reccomened to either do them all or none...no way to know how they trade so play them all and hope for more winners than losers

This is incorrect. There are only some specific holdin periods that this is true for. Over the first 12 months they generally do very well.
