Can someone remind me what they did with the bats that kill the home runs?

didn't everyone used to use wood bats on every level from little league on up to major league? Every team used to afford them without it being a huge expense. I think the price of wood bats and how often they break is being over estimated here.

I call bullshite on the cash excuse. Bryce Harper played in the SWAC(scenic west ath conf) and they play with wooden bats in conference play. I wouldn't mind seeing that in the SEC.

ASU used to get 8,000+ crowds before the Diamondbacks came to town.

Expect 5,000+ crowds with the move to Phoenix Muni.

Of course, we're one of the few Western schools that puts butts in the stands.

There is more pop in wooden bats than those crappy bats the NCAA has made them use. So I doubt it.

That may be possible, but I would have to see it to believe it.

Its funny how some people pretend like the college game is more like MLB now.

Last night the Pirates and Reds combined for 10 hrs, and the game didn't finish.

Thats an unusual amount in MLB, but an imposable amount in college.

Not all wood bats are the same--there's only so much good-bat-quality wood each year.

The best bats go to the majors, the next best to the minors. A school that cares about baseball like LSU would get the third tier bats, but smaller schools would get stuck with even worse bats because of the limited annual supply of good-bat-quality wood. That would stratify the game even more than it is now and would be bad for college baseball.

As it is, every team that buys the same bats gets the same product. Now, of course, not every team puts as much money into bat purchases, so many of our opponents are playing with inferior equipment. That's their choice. Going to wooden bats would eliminate their ability to make that choice.

Back in the day when everyone down to little league used wooden bats, the bat quality at little league was pretty bad compared to the majors.

It's not all limited supply. No one is gonna shell out 200 bucks a pop for high school or little league wooden bats.

MLB has offered to pay for the wooden bats but for some reason the NCAA has refused the offer. I remember distinctly Skip Bertman telling me this.

The game today is unwatchable. Go to MLB balls and wooden bats ASAP!

MLB has not ever offered to pay.

And let's talk about the legistics. Who do they pay? The bat companies? the NCAA? the Schools?

Which brings us to: Who orders the bats? The schools? The NCAA? Or the MLB?

Does each school get a certain amount? Or a certain number of bats? Unlimitted?

What about the NAIA? And NJCAA? They'll need wood bats too. Or are those schools/kids on there own since the deal is just between the NCAA and MLB. That's great since those are the poorest baseball programs.

too expensive
i hear this excuse..... but i would bet a big time bat maker like Louisville would jump at the opportunity to have their brand blasted all over ESPN and shite if the NCAA would work that deal.

Louisville makes metal too. Why cut a deal when you undercut another part of your business?
