Comprehensive Discussion thread on mid-late round Draft Prospects
Posted on 4/14/14 at 2:02 pm
Posted on 4/14/14 at 2:02 pm
We've spent enough time focusing on top 2 round prospects. I want to start turning our focus into guys that are anywhere from 3rd round to 7th round type prospects. I want us all to be collectively informed so that we aren't going to hear a name on draft day and say who the hell is that guy.
I'd like you to meet Deandre Coleman. He's a versatile DT run stuff guy that also projects to a 5 technique end. Possibly a 5-6th round projection. He's 6'5 and 314 from Cal. Got a terrific frame on this cat. Also worth noting this is where we got cam jordan from.

Not all great WRs are taken in the first rounds. Unfortunately the word is out on this cat and he might even go before the Saints #91. Seven teams have lined up private workouts for him.
6'2" 215 lbs
4.44 forty
Latimer, who is still recovering from the injury and therefore did not participate in shuttle drills or even the positional workout, was able to run the 40-yard dash, clocking in at an impressive 4.44, according to a report from NFL.com. Latimer, who led all receivers with 23 reps of 225 pounds at the Combine, also recorded an impressive 39-inch vertical jump on Wednesday. A total of 19 teams attended the workout with the New York Jets and San Diego Chargers represented by general managers John Idzik and Tom Telesco, according to the report. Latimer is currently rated as NFLDraftScout.com's No. 24 overall receiver and a 5th round prospect. He's a bit raw as a route-runner but the physical talent is certainly there to warrant development.
Here's where he ranks on some Big Boards (WR/Overall)-
CBS 15/96
GBN -/89
Drafttek 17/126
Walter 20/-
Scouting Report
STRENGTHS: Possesses thick, athletic-looking frame and an impressive speed/agility combination that enable him to separate consistently as a route-runner, and extend plays after the catch both in space and on contact. Flashes soft hands and good coordination when asked to extend and pluck the ball off his frame***, and positions his body nicely when adjusting to balls thrown off stride.
Flashes the physicality and initial quickness to develop into a receiver who could beat press coverage at the next level, and is a willing blocker in the running game with room to improve his technique there.
WEAKNESSES: Occasional concentration issues leading to drops. Though Latimer exhibits burst and hip-sink to separate out of cuts, he seems to lack a second gear when asked to pull away vertically and may struggle to consistently threaten the top of the defense. As a route-runner, lacks precision at times as he'll round off his cuts, and he needs to get better at working his way back to the ball on hitches and comeback routes.
Wide receiver and defensive back for head coach Daniel Parks at Jefferson Township High School ... first team all-conference selection hauled in 42 catches for 722 yards and six touchdowns in addition to 372 rushing yards, six TDs and 27 carries in just eight games as a senior ... made 89 tackles, four interceptions (one score) and forced two fumbles ... on special teams, returned 13 kickoffs for 450 yards and four touchdowns and added one punt return TD ... rated the No. 19 prospect in Ohio and the No. 49 wide receiver nationally by Rivals.com ... rated the top wide receiver in Ohio by OhioVarsity.com ... caught 45 passes for 960 yards and eight scores as a junior ... rushed for 260 yards on 24 attempts and six touchdowns ... led the team with 95 tackles ... two-year football letter winner also played basketball and baseball ... honor roll student ... parents are Tonya and Robert Dunson ... born on Oct. 10, 1992, Cody Derek Latimer is a general studies major.

Glenn Carson, ILB Penn St. 6'3 about 240 plus. Stout LB, hustler... could be an intersting late 6th/7th round or udfa gem.

Telvin Smith, LB Florida State. A bit undersized but fast and is a playmaker.

I'll throw Terrance Mitchell's name in this thread (Oregon, CB).
-Played a lot of press at Oregon
-Allowed 0 TDs last year
-Contributes on Special Teams
-Had a poor 40 at the combine (4.63), but ran a 4.53 at Oregon's Pro Day
-Had really good 3 cone (6.57, 1st among CBs), 2o yard shuttle (4.00 tied for 1st among CBs), and 60 yard shuttle (11.22, 2nd among CBs) times at the Combine.
He's projected between 5 and 6, but I think he'll be a lot better, and have a lot longer career than a lot of CBs that will be picked before him.
