If they were selected earlier than they are projected?

Odell Beckham is the consensus pick to be the 1st LSU player taken in the draft. He is projected around the late teens to late 20's in the 1st round.. Beckham getting taken in the top 15 picks would be huge. It would show recruits that LSU doesn't need to run a wide-open spread offense to have elite WRs taken early. It would also confirm the staff's track record of playing kids early and put them on a 3-year path to the NFL.. I think Tyron Johnson has a similar skillset as OBJ, and it would be another good selling point to keep him home

Zach Mettenberger's stock seems to be rising with each passing day. Most projections have him in the 2nd-3rd range, but it would shock me if he gets past the 2nd. If a team in the 2nd were to trade up and snag Mett in the late 1st, it could help greatly in recruiting for coming years. Although it seems LSU is targeting more dual-threat qbs, a pro-style QB coming off an ACL injury suffered in the last regular season game and still being taken in the 1st would be a great recruiting chip

Jeremy Hill is a 1st round talent, that keeps being projected in the 2nd-3rd range due to his history of off the field incidents. If Hill gets taken in the late 1st or early 2nd, it will be a win for Les and the belief that he always runs a RB by committee.. Recent RBs that separate themselves and earn the majority of the carries will have been rewarded early in the draft (Hill and Ridley) and should not be ignored by upcoming RB blue chips

Jarvis Landry's impressive film and improved 40 time at his pro day could allow him to sneak into late 1st or early 2nd. 2 WRs taken early could help with the deep 2015 & 16 WR classes, that may be concerned about the lack of touches they may get with young talent such as Malachi, Quinn, Diarse, Spears, & Peterson ahead of them

Ego Ferguson & Anthony Johnson are 2 DTs that grade out similarly and are projected in the 3rd-4th ranges. If one of them (or both) were to get selected in the 2nd round, it would continue the run of DTs that LSU that has gotten drafted early. Even though both guys play DT, the Dline plays as a unit, and their draft position could be paid attention to by both DT and DE prospects

Craig Loston is projected around rounds 3-5, and is the lone DBU representative in the draft this year. A high draft selection for DBU will reinforce a nickname that even WR recruits claim as an advantage to attending LSU, as they get to practice against the best every day. A slip down the draft boards for Loston and DBU may lose some of its allure

Trai Turner is my pick for the draft prospect that would help the most with an early selection. No matter how much LSU can try to downplay it, an Oline prospect getting taken early is essential, especially in a crucial year for Oline recruiting. Turner's projections has fluctuated from 2nd-5th rounds, and Profootballtalk's mock even had him taken at the 26th overall selection, but their mock is the outlier. Getting selected in the early-mid 2nd round as a redshirt sophomore playing one of the lesser valued positions in all of football would be a huge boost for recruiting this year. It may be a stretch, but it could possibly seal the deal for a recruit who is on the fence such as Tillery

Cowboys took C Travis Frederick at 30 last year, and he was a 3rd round grade. I'm not saying its likely to happen but if Landry is consistently mocked at mid-2nd, then late 1st and early 2nd would be him getting selected earlier than projected

Turner for sure. OL is the only spot where it is directly being used against us. Wrs grow on trees and we will never have issues getting them. Qbs don't matter in terms of the draft. Rb has never been an issue. Our DT and DB reputation is so good already that it doesn't matter what happens.

Next years draft is ultra important with Collins and Hawkins (possibly). They can change the image our OL rep has gotten. Both have 1st round potential and could pay huge dividends on the trail

lsufanva, you are exactly right. If we can get Turner in the second round, it would go a long way in getting OL recruits outside of LSU to give us a good look. Add that Collins could be a first round pick next year and Fehoko (my RG pick) could place himself in the top 5 rounds, should go a long way for us.

Hill is 1st round talent but RBs aren't coveted in draft like years past. I don't think teams are too worried that he punched a dude and got his crankshaft swallowed by a skeezer ho.

If the Saints can reel in either Hill, Landry, or OBJ it would make my day but I know chances are slim

Hill has the unique combination of mega production, but without the high mileage of most draft elgible RBs due to those incidents.

There is a taboo about taking a RB in the 1st, and any additional baggage with a RB may push teams off using a 1st on them.. There wasn't a RB taken in the 1st last year, but Lacy did win OROY and he would be one of the first players taken if there was a re-draft.

RB is not a high value position in the Draft anymore, unless they are Petersonesque, so Hill's troubles are not the reason if he goes in the 2nd or 3rd round. If he goes 5th or 6th, then you can blame his off field troubles.

Odell and Landry is great for recruiting because they get 2x the attention. However, LSU has consistently produced WR talent through the years: Kennison, Reed, Clayton, Henderson, Lafell, Bowe, Randle, etc.

While I agree LSU needs to produce more OL, I don't think Trai Turner being a 2nd rounder-- even a late 1st-- alone is good enough to get recruit's attention given the lack of LSU OLs getting drafted high over the years. LSU needs a top 10-top 15 at least OL to start making noise.

Look at the Bama-LSU nat. championship game rosters. The difference was Bama's ability to protect the QB with highly drafted OL. LSU has no one drafted high on its OL.

OL is a place LSU needs to get better. Turner helps but not enough.

Mettenburger wins, I think. Most important position, Cam Cameron contribution, etc. If Mett gets drafted late 1st/early 2nd, almost every QB in the nation will look at LSU as a possibility.

Mettenburger for this year

Collins for next year.

I think people tend to forget Chris Faulk is was a first round prospect before injury. Also remember Alex Hurst in a couple mock drafts.

We remember that about Faulk and Hurst but recruits don't and tha t is what we're talking about here. Bama uses their OL draftees, and our lack of, directly against us. CR constantly cited their high draft picks as a major reason he was so high on them. Faulk and Hurst were projected high but didn't make it so its like horseshoes and hand grenades. Close don't count
