Question about patio covers and cost?

I am looking to get a 9x12 patio cover put up on the back patio of a property. I have been reading online about what types and models are available.
Do any of you have any suggestions on what style to go with or not to go with?
Do you know how these hold up during bad weather? (i.e. Hurricane)
What type pf price range am I looking at for wanting to get this done?
How long does a job like this usually take?
I am about to start calling around to get some info but figured I would ask here to get some general knowledge before doing so. Thanks.

You mean like an aluminium one? The hold up ok unless tree or hail fall on them. They can normally be installed in a day...

If a lot of light is let into the room through the windows adjacent to the covered area, just keep in mind a patio cover will considerably reduce the amount of light getting in and result in the room (inside the house) being darker than you may be used to.

Well to be honest I have no clue about these things. I am doing it as a present for someone else.
I saw some were vinyl, metal, wood. Whats best? How much upkeep besides a good wash down do they need?

easily $7,000 and up

No upkeep needed, besides a hose and to clean the gutters from time to time...

are u looking for the patio cover that is wood and has a roof on it, or aluminum?
$7000 seems high for aluminum.
$7000 seems high for aluminum.

That seems extremely high and if they are that much that is ridiculous. I just poured a 16x20 slab myself and covered it all with treated lumber and 26 gauge metal and built a bar and cook station all for under 6k with running electricity. I did all the work myself but 7k for just a awning is crazy.

Definitely take this into consideration. I had a large aluminum patio installed in my backyard and it made my home very dark. A lot of the natural light coming through the windows and my french doors got blocked.

No way $7k, give me a zip code and I will run it through my estimating software...

That seems really high. I was hoping between 1,000 - 3,000.

I spent less than 5k which included the concrete slab that was poured. The material for the patio itself was less than 4k. I think my patio is 12x16.

We have and the ability to actually sit outside during the summer for them outweighs the loss of light coming through the back door.

Look for ~$10 sf for ~1200 for the labor and materials...

Zip 70769
The one we were looking at was very similar to Alumawood's Maxx Panel.
We got a free estimate from Home Depot.
The guy threw out $9K, I laughed, and eventually talked his way down to just under $7K.
It was a 10' x 20' aluminum posts that looked like columns.
The top was foam sandwiched between two aluminum sheets.
The salesman said it was strong enough to walk on the top.
We did not buy it. I figured I could build much nicer for 1/2 that price...

I will look at it later, on the way to a soccer game, hard to estimate while driving...

Are you from the baton Rouge area? If so call aluminum specialities. Not sure of the number off hand but you can Google it. I bought a kit and did it myself. All aluminum for a 18x23 was ˜1700. It took me and a neighbor a day and a half. This price includes everything. If I am not mistaking they told me to double the price of the kit to have it installed.
