Controversy over film tax credits in Mississippi

Seems rational minds have a voice in Mississippi.
Mississippi has capped their total film industry welfare at $20 million---roughly 1/10th of what we give away--and the critics of the welfare are rightfully outraged.

I speak for a lot of people here when we welcome filmmakers to Clarksdale, which is known mostly for its support of blues music and the arts.

I would say 80 percent of clarksdales residents don't pay taxes. More than 20 percent work but most make so little they get a tax refund. If they're worried about the town they should get off their arse

Gosh wouldn't be great if they would stay without extorting $200 million in welfare every year from us???
Who wants an industry that admits if they don't get welfare they will leave your community??

And don't give me this shite of "none should" bc then look at all the other shite you're "paying for" and get back to me.

You guys that advocate for this welfare owe the critics an idea as to just how much in your mind we should all pay for film subsidies.

I don't know how many jobs most people on welfare create. or how many tourists. Also most well fair doesn't require that you spend an x amount of money in the state.

I think we should take less from everyone. So i am not against tax credits to an industry. I am not against other businesses buying those credits and in turn getting a tax break themselves.
So it also benefits other businesses as well because they can buy tax credits for 90 cents not the dollar and get 10 percent off those taxes.
Freemen loves taxing businesses.
