So Im thinking about taking a weekend trip with the wife this summer to somewhere on the westside of FL. Only beach Ive been to in FL is Destin/Ft Walton so that is my only comparison I have to Gulf beaches.

I was thinking Tampa/ St Pete area. Looking for blue green water and entertainment close by (bars, restaraunts). Not sure what kind of accomodations are there but hotel or condo rental on the beach are prefferable.

Any recs?

Anna Maria Island (went there last summer and it was very nice) or Sanibel Island

Sarasota, Anna Maria Island, or Bradenton

It's a bit quieter so you may want to stay closer to Tampa/St. Pete. Money goes a lot farther down there in terms of rentals also. The summer is kind of their "off season"

We go to Treasure Island/St. Pete's Beach area across the bay from Tampa and it's a long stretch of beach with beach communities all along the way. In fact we're going again in September. Lots to do there and Tampa is a short drive across the bay. Siesta Key is a short drive south of St. Pete's Beach and was rated as the best beach in America a few years ago. We usually try to go there for a day trip. Anywhere along there would be good. Lots to see and do in that area.

I kind of group Captiva in with Sanibel since you drive through one to get to the other. Little different vibe. Captiva is mainly houses and a tad more upscale. We stay in Sanibel and drive over to Captiva at least twice during the week to eat or go shopping in the little town common area.

We've done Tampa-area trips for the last several years (in-laws live there) and have always enjoyed ourselves. Last year we used the MIL's work discount and stayed at the Guy Harvey Outpost ( LINK) and liked it so much we are doing it again this summer.

Sanibel/Captiva. Seashells for days, bluest water.

Thanks for all the responses.

Looks like St Pete, Sanibel, Marco, Siesta are popular choices. Does anyone have recs on places to stay near the beach.

Also, is there much of a difference in color of water from st pete down to marco or is it all pretty much comparible.

Very comparable. None of those areas are as blue as the PCB to Destin stretch. But they still have far more blue than the Atlantic side.

So many condos all around there. Go to VRBO and just type in 1 bedroom in your search area.

Biggest issue will be finding one that is open for just a weekend but you should be able to find several after emailing the owner/manager on the listing.
