I'll just leave this here because I know the Recruiting Board loves them some North La.

quote:

Enemy territory. Just as your team has boosters active in other states, so too are enemy agents inside your borders. In many cases they're concentrated in a single area, like an in-state rival's town, a town close to the border, or just an area with a concentration of sidewalk fans who support someone else.

A phrase that rings true in recruiting...

if you can pay cash money and keep a straight face, you'll never get caught.

The Bag Man excuses himself to make a call outside, on his "other phone," to arrange delivery of $500 in cash to a visiting recruit. The player is rated No. 1 at his position nationally and on his way into town. We're sitting in a popular restaurant near campus almost a week before National Signing Day, talking about how to arrange cash payments for amateur athletes.

"Nah, there's no way we're landing him, but you still have to do it," he says. "It looks good. It's good for down the road. Same reason my wife reads Yelp. These kids talk to each other. It's a waste of money, but they're doing the same thing to our guys right now in [rival school's town]. Cost of business."

Steven Godfrey is a senior reporter for SB Nation based in Nashville, Tennessee. A graduate of the University of Mississippi and a long suffering Atlanta sports fan, he can be reached on Twitter @38Godfrey.

Gee, I wonder what school the bagman he was talking to was from...

Incredible read... based on context clues it's Ole Miss, Miss State, Auburn, or Alabama.

I can only think of one SEC school that's consistently called by "the mascot" in conversation.

It really doesn't matter, he's pretty clear that this shite happens all over the place. The atmosphere he describes certainly makes it seem like an AL school, especially the attempted set-up.

Maybe, but most people use the school name to talk about LSU, Ole Miss, Auburn. UF I can see being called the gators consistently. Not saying it's any kind of proof, and I really don't care, but 'the tide' is at least more popular in speech than saying 'the rebel black bears'... you would just say Ole Miss. I just thought it was curious.

Do you really want to start an unsubstantiated baseless rumor against one of our guys? Is that really what you want to do?

WOW!

The way they talked about a local rival I just feel like it has to be the mississippi or alabama schools. But, it's every school tbh.

I don't. I say LSU. Mizzou fans I know say Mizzou. Mississippi State fans I know say State. Ole Miss fans I know say Ole Miss.

I don't know if I know anyone that refers to their school by the mascot.

Certainly don't know anyone that actually went to the school that would refer to it that way.
