but it would be based on his stats from the years prior right?

meaning if we lined him up 51/49 at TE in the past and his only tag is this year, but in the next two years that ratio moves to 49/51, would it change the was he is looked at?

i hope i am saying this right

I see what you're getting at - if we line him up as a TE 80% of the time the next couple of years...

No team will pay Graham top 5 receiver money. I expect a top receiver to turn a 5 yard pass into a 50+ touchdown at any time. Graham will never do this.

How often do the top 10 WRs line up as a TE?

If he's not a TE then he's a possession WR with a bigger frame. Still not worthy of Megatron/Fitz/AJ Green/Julio Jones money.

anyone who can be shutdown a whole game by a dedicated cb can not be considered a top WR

This is what is going to kill his argument.

WR's lineup at the TE position 0% of the time.

They never have their hand in the dirt blocking.

Even if Graham only does that 20% of the time it is still vastly more than even your average WR

This is the question.

TEs line up wide consistently in today's NFL.

Exactly.

Plus, other TEs have lined up more in the slot or split out than at TE.

And, if its about where you line up at the most, Graham lines up in the slow more than split out wide and at TE. If thats the case, then he gets paid as a slot WR. Victor Cruz has a 5 year $43m with $15.6m guaranteed. Average salary of $8.6m.

If they wanna get technical with it, thats where he lines up the most at so thats where he should be paid / tagged as.

How often did Sproles line up in the slot or out wide? How many times did he motion to those positions? If he were to be tagged (again), would it be at WR?

Exactly Sproles had more catches than carries for us.

What bothers me the most is that they try and use a flaw in Grahams game to earn him more $$$. I get thats his agents job and all that. But the reason Graham doesnt line up at the end line TE spot that much is because he cant block and has issues getting free off the line and into his routes. Hell, he has to come out on most run plays. If he was in on most running plays like most TEs are, his % of where he lined up at would be drastically different.

exactly. I am trying to think through all the other points being made too about WR never being inside on the line.

But i guess is that really a big deal? there are 5 ineligables. Graham has always been in as an eligable position just as a WR is an eligable. so i cant see why hands in the dirt make a big difference.

I dont think any of this will matter.

Graham will have his deal before the season starts.
