Prince and The Revolution vs Prince and The New Power Generation

I'm partial to The Revolution since I was a kid during this time and was a huge fan. But even more than that, the arsenal of hits that this version came out with is undeniable and despite being 80's music, has stood the test of time. Purple Rain alone gives this version a huge advantage imho.
That said, Diamonds and Pearls is one of the best written songs ever in my opinion.....beautiful song.

It is kind of a question of...Do you like 80's pop Prince or Neo-funk-hip hop Prince?
For me, I think Prince and the Revolution is some of Prince's finest work. However, early Prince has a super old school funk thing going (Controversy, etc) that was also good.
I just think songs like "I would die 4 u" "When Doves Cry" "Purple Rain" "I wanna be your lover" are, IMO, better than "Kiss" "Get off" etc.
Sexy MF is a great song however

"I Wanna Be Your Lover" is one of my all time favorites.
As far as newer Prince, "Call My Name" off the Musicology album is the shite.

Does it really matter? At the end of the day, it's all Prince. They were just backing bands for a brief time. What about the time he was just solo with no revolution or power generation between those two?
And let's pretend Batman crap never happened.

I agree. It's hard to pick a favorite. I can say seeing him in concert was one of the best music events I have witnessed in person. This was in the mid 2000's and the NPG was backing him if I remember correctly. The man is a talented musician.

Neither. I only like a few tunes from Dirty Mind, and can stomach some isolated stuff from other albums, on the rare occasion.
Talented, über talented, no doubt, but not my cup of tea.

I'll never understand why "The Continental" off of Love Symbol never became a hit.

I saw him in Baton Rouge back on the Contoversy tour. Fricking awesome. Along with Morris Day and the mother****ing Time!
