I know how to read a website, and have done such. I am seriously considering moving a kid there for academics.

How does the academic experience compare to a magnet school?

I have asked the school these questions already, am looking for unbiased, educated opinions (if they exist)

TIA

I have no experience with Southern Lab School, but if you look up their 2013 School Report Card LINK, they made a C. Most magnet schools in EBRP make As. Granted the report card/"grade" of the school mostly relies on standardized testing, which some people discount as not a true measure of a school's teaching ability but more a measure of the socioeconomic status of the students and parental involvement.

(In the link, you may have to pull down each school to look at it. Southern Lab isn't listed as an EBRP school, but as its own district.)

I saw that. I inferred the scores are brought down by the recruited athletes, but what do I know?

I went there for some summer program when I was about to enter middle school. The facilities sucked back then, but maybe things changed.

I do not know what is like now, but when I was in high school (early 2000's) I had a few friends that went there.

They never made it a secret that the school was a joke academically.

Can you expand on that please? I have a walkthrough next week and would love to have a heads up on stuff like that.

But even comparing the school scores and the state scores in K-8 (where there are probably fewer recruited athletes), the school doesn't perform as well as state averages. I wish that link had a district average too.

That makes me sad. Lsu lab practically requires a referral, which I'm working on.

I had this grand picture of professors teaching kids.

That's concerning. Thanks.

That should give you an idea of where their focus is.

This was back in 1999, so as I said, I would think that things had changed since then (haven't been back there since), but from what I can remember, the inside of the building needed some upgradings (like some new painting and stuff).
