Would you take a test that diagnosed Alzheimer's years in advance?

One may be on the horizon. LINK

quote:

Researchers have already identified genetic risk factors that give some people higher odds of one day contracting Alzheimer's. The new studies are different: They propose that certain "biomarkers" of the disease may be detectable after it has begun to affect the brain, but before symptoms have become apparent.

There's an analog situation for Huntington's disease. Incurable, if a parent has it, the child has a 50-50 chance. There's a test for it, some children opt for the test, others don't.

I would. My grandfather had it and as it came upon me he got slowly robbed by scumbag family members. I would want to protect myself for the sake of my family even if it was from my family.

Yes because there are actually drugs and nutrients out there that have been shown to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's and possibly delay it a little longer.

The earlier you know the better.

Argument is kind of like knowing the day that you die.

It's coming and not much can be done about it.

Similar to Alzheimer's. Not a lot in the way of treatment. Just band aids really.

I guess I would take the test.

anytime you forget anything, you'd think "oh shite, must be early Alzheimer's!" Sounds like it'd be pretty rough to get diagnosed early

I don't see the point in knowing unless there is a cure or if early detection helps in prevention.
