Is he done at Tulane now?

they don't give many details on his "illness"

I am not a fan of Tulane at all but I can appreciate great coaching and Rick Jones is a hell of a coach. Its sad to see his time with Tulane end like this, the man deserves better.

Don't think its cancer, all they've said is its a cardiovascular issue and not life-threatening.

Some people think he'll retire soon. I'm a big fan of coach Jones, but it's probably time for someone new.

If he gets this condition under control, he will be back next season. The doctors are trying to get the medication regulated to get things under control still. Knowing him well, he is dying to get released but it's the doctor's call and right now he needs rest. Hopefully they get a handle on it and he is back next year, which is the last year on his contract.

Like him or hate him, he has done more for Tulane Baseball than anyone. Without him there wouldn't have been any world series trips or Turchin Stadium.

He is retiring. He has cardio issues and has had them for years now. He was set to retire after 2014 or 2015 well before the DRs sat him down for the remainder of this year.

Jones has really struggled to adapt to the new bats. His top assistants left for head coaching jobs and bringing back the former players has not been the answer. He used Katrina as an excuse but that no longer applies to the program's struggles. He whined about TOPS but that helped Tulane as well, not to mention the Legislator's schollies they were able to use as well on LA kids. Had he not tried to undermine LSU at every avenue and worried about his own program he would have been better off.

Hmmm, I wouldn't be too sure. I would bet on him being back next season and that being the farewell tour unless Doc says no way.

I'm not sure what you mean that Jones hasn't adapted to the new bats. You're correct that his new assistants have not gotten the job done.
Katrina was a pretty valid excuse for a while, he had an entire recruiting class gutted after Katrina, pretty much everybody getting well over slot money, that was a pretty valid excuse too.

Never heard him whine about TOPS and while Tulane does get to use it, it's no comparison to the help the much cheaper state schools get out of it. Legislative schollies go to kids with a 28 and up on their ACT, pretty small market there

No idea what you mean about undermining Lsu at every avenue.

I guess he could be back for 2015 but more to the point was that it had been decided, before this season started that he was retiring within two years. I think if Jake can rally the team somehow and the team finishes strong(compared to what they have shown right now, not regional strong) then Jones won't come back because he wants to hand it over to Jake. Jake is a stud recruiter and since he has been in charge of recruiting he has killed it.

The only thing I agree with is that he has bitched about TOPS - so do I but not because of baseball - because it is a fleece of the taxpayers or the schools; one or the other. As for undermining LSU - he hasn't done that and he couldn't if he wanted to.
Katrina set all of our programs back about 3 years. Tulane didn't have a single coach of the 4 major programs who could deal with Katrina and get things back on track.
I think Jones' big mistake is in hiring ex players instead of experienced assistants. And he had excellent assistants in the past, a prime trait in successful programs.
I think there's something to the bat situation. We don't recruit like we did before Katrina - but it's not awful recruit either. Our hitting has been awful.
I don't know what's going to happen next year. If I had to guess, I'd guess he won't be back. But right now, get healthy, Coach.

I don't know that this is true, there was a rumor last year that Jones had signed an extension through 2017.

I don't like TOPS either particularly when my taxpayer money is sending kids to college for free whose parents can afford it.

My parents sent me to college and had to pay with the exception of about 50% in schollies that I earned.

And I know TOPS won't be around when my kids get there.

All I can say is to me, it is fact. Doesn't need to be your fact but it is for me.

Like who? Schlossnagle?

A former player basically hired by Jones out of college

Schloss was hired from Clemson. And when Schloss left he hired Mark Kingston from Miami.

The SELU staff is basically all ex Tulane players; he may hire one of those guys next.

Yea, I think even before Gaut, Sutter etc. Jones used former players.
