His dad is in the Chargers HOF and holds their record for lifetime INTs. Good bloodline. How about this uncle for mentoring?!?!

The visitor, “Uncle Neaky?” Aeneas Williams, NFL Hall of Famer, Class of 2014.

So, the chain link goes this way: Gill Byrd, a four-time All-Pro, two-time Pro Bowler who remains the franchise leader in interceptions (42) and was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in 1998, mentored Williams, who on Feb. 1 was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame after a 14-year career in which he intercepted 55 passes, recovered 23 fumbles, scored 12 defensive touchdowns and was an eight-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro.

And now Williams, a New Orleans native who attended Alcee Fortier High School, mentors his “nephew” Jairus Byrd, who in five seasons has become a three-time All-Pro, three-time Pro Bowler who has 22 interceptions, 33 passes defensed, 11 forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.

Thus, long before Jairus Byrd agreed to terms on a six-year contract to become a Saint, he already had been exposed to some of the best New Orleans has to offer. He has been the recipient of some of the same kind of wisdom – regarding football and life – that his father provided to Williams.

MORE HERE

If there were thoroughbreds for being an NFLer Byrd fits the part. The Saints have done great with these sons of NFL players. What the bloodlines available in this draft?

I'm having trouble containing my excitement abbot this team. Especially the defense. I probably won't be able to sit still until the season starts once we get a new crop of draft picks.

Yeah I'm really looking forward to the draft. I know we can get an impact player @ 27.

Mostly, I'm excited to see this defense too. KV32, Byrd, and Bush in particular. You duplicate and multiply Jenkins with the Byrd pick up, and have incomparable depth with Bush. KV32 is a fricking stud. No ifs/ands/buts about it.

Champ Bailey
Area 28
p-rob
Corey White

...and don't get me started on the d-line

I really hope they continue to improve in run defense going into this season. That was the only place where our defense was lackluster last season. I think they can do that in the draft and with current player development.

You've done well recognizing my first post was about Corey White. But no, I'm here to basically lurk out loud.

He is a decent player. Had he not fumbled the Pick 6 or dropped the int vs seattle people wouldn't hate on him so much.

He actually is a decent player and I'm not completely knocking him. I just don't include him in the list of defensive players that I'm most excited about this upcoming season.

I'm actually more anxious to see Butler hit the field at 100% than anything. I know Champ will come in and be at about Greer's CB 2 level, the d-line will only get better and of course we have a top 3 backfield. Corey has a lot of work to do is all I'm saying!

Excuse me Mr. 3 Posts but I'll take Corey White on any 3 or 4 WR in the league at the moment.

Then why don't you wait til he releases his new jersey # and buy it? Dude is a solid #4, average #3 and y'all act like he's changed the face of our defense. He's no Jason Da... well you know..

Glad to know you're keeping count of my posts though. You're my 5th. TWSS.

Ehhhh, not sure about that. If that is indeed the thinking of the FO, I don't think Bailey is an upgrade to Greer, especially in man coverage. I would use Champ in a nickel situation and allow him to roam. He's looked real slow the last two years, not good for your #2 CB.

He was a second year player who was thrown into the starting spot and played well. He has a lot of potential

There's nothing wrong with White that a little more experience won't cure. Having Bailey as the new mentor will payoff big time.

Nobody acts like that. Most think he is a solid CB, with more potential. He's improved in each of his years with the Saints. Fair to assume he could take another step forward in his 3rd year.
