I saw a segment on MSNBC about modern day affirmative action and it got me thinking. I'm of the strong opinion that my generation, "generation X" should be the last generation to contend with Affirmative Action. I think the "Millennial's" and whatever you call this brand new generation that my niece and nephews are in, are truly beyond the need for Affirmative Action". There once was indeed a great need to right American society but these new generations are beyond that bull shite and i don't want my niece and nephews to have to contend with it. Anybody care to opine?

Affirmative Action
Another name for government sanctioned racism. It's an anachronism and it needs to be chucked once and for all onto the ash heap of history.

AA is a very charged term today, can you be more specific as what you are referring to?

I'm definitely pro-diversity, though.

As long is there is a significant difference in cognitive ability (g) test scores on personnel selection tests between whites and blacks/hispanics, there will probably be a need for affirmative action.

If there were an overwhelming majority of Asian applicants in the U.S. workforce, we probably would

Is affirmative action required to thwart racism or needed to bolster those who cannot compete on a level playing field?

Aff action is required to achieve Diversity. Is Diversity necessary? No. The opposite of Diversity is Meritocracy. That's why the NBA is almost all black. That's why almost all engineers are male.

No, the opposite of diversity is uniformity (and all of its synonyms)

Whites aren't constantly "victimized" by the government and media.

Also, Caucasians and Asians, don't generally complain about "supposed" unequal treatment like minorities do (a symptom of the above mentioned victimization)

that'd be true if this board's posters weren't the ones doing the hiring.

What job is it you want you can't get because a black man got it?

I got thrown out of a school meeting once for saying we didn't need diversity. They were trying to hire more male teachers (read black teachers) and calling it diversity. I told them I didn't care if they hired purple people, but those purple people better be the ones most qualified to teach my child. I got asked to leave.
