Anybody on the left care about this?

quote:

WASHINGTON — President Obama on Tuesday will call attention to what he has said is an “embarrassment” in America: the fact that women make, on average, only 77 cents for every dollar that a man earns.

But critics of the administration are eager to turn the tables and note that Mr. Obama’s White House fares only slightly better. A study released in January showed that female White House staff members make on average 88 cents for every dollar a male staff member earns.

The dueling statistics reveal the political sensitivities around a set of gender-related issues that could be critical in the midterm elections this fall. Those include pay equity, family leave, preschool and child care.

Even as Mr. Obama seeks to make an issue of the gender gap in compensation across the country, however, his own hiring is facing some scrutiny. The recent study, by the conservative American Enterprise Institute, showed that the median annual salary for women in the White House last year was $65,000, while the median annual salary for men was $73,729. The study was based on White House salary data.

Women's salary deficits can be offset by free covers and ladies' night drink specials.

My aunt is a big time Liberal and she brings up the "gender pay gap" a lot and how Republicans are to blame. I told her about the "pay gap" in Obama's admin. Her first reaction was "well, what jobs to they have and how many hours do they work?"

Intellectual honesty means absolutely nothing to Liberals.

She could work for Obama. She'd fit right in.

Of course it would have to be for 70% of what the men in the White House are making.

I was dreading the upcoming mid-term elections until I saw this on CNN this morning:

What's interesting about this is that the staffers hold similar jobs and the women are paid less.

In the nationwide job market that is not the case as many careers women seek are just typically lower pay than the careers men seek.

I'd like to see a study of the average pay of a woman nurse to a man nurse, woman district manager of mcdonalds to a man district manager, etc. I bet it's closer than the white house' staffers pay is. My Girlfriends parents work in the same field for a company and make similar pay

Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer says.. you don't have to worry about gender gap pay with me!

quote:

To play off “Equal Pay Day” on Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has scheduled a show vote on the Paycheck Fairness Act, which shifts the burden to employers to prove pay discrepancies are not related to gender.

Oh.. but wait..

quote:

But Mr. Schumer, Mr. Reid and the others in the Senate Democratic leadership — Majority Whip Dick Durbin and Conference Secretary Patty Murray — are hypocritical in saying they want women to have equal seniority and pay.

Not one of them has a female chief of staff or communications director, the person spearheading this week’s publicity stunts. Mr. Reid’s spokesman, Adam Jentleson, did not respond to a request for comment.

Ms. Murray is the only woman on either side in leadership, but she’s also in the lowest-ranking position. The Washington Democrat tweeted Monday: “50+ yrs since JFK signed #EqualPay Act women still earn just 77¢ to every $1 men make.” Yet her top adviser and the communicator for this message are men.

One female Senate Republican aide told me that, “It’s a bit ironic that the male-dominated Senate Democrat leadership communications staff is trying to tell American women what they need to get ahead in the workplace.”

That's only "slightly" better? 88 is nearly halfway from 77 to 100! That kind stretches the definition of the word "slightly" doesn't it?

They will point out that male nurse on average will make 20% higher earnings, but omit that it is because male nurse more often obtain specialized certification that skews that stat greatly. Men are 9% of all nurses, but 43% of nurse anesthesiologists

I discovered the biggest discrepancy in gender pay. Professional basketball. The men make 10 million dollars a year. The women are making 50K a year. They are doing the exact same job... playing pro basketball.

My math sucks. Its not an equal pay for equal jobs issue. Its just that more men are in higher positions. Little misleading.

Average salaries are actually 5.15 million vs 72,000

The gap is closing!

In the TV judge category its probably reversed. Judge Judy makes 47 mil a year.

Good Lord, is there ANYTHING Obama does that you wont shill for, make excuses for, or try to spin?

Why aren't the women making 100% of what the men in the White House make? Why is anything less than that acceptable?
