As thomas sowell points out, you can explain away some of the discrepency by looking at what positions women fill. In the case of the white house, our beloved jay carney points out
I completely buy this. Women are much more likely to be AA than men, and in general those are paid at a lower rate than say cabinet secretary.
quote:
Jay Carney, the president’s press secretary, said the statistics for White House staff members reflect the fact that women fill more lower-level positions than men. But he said that women and men in the same positions at the White House are paid the same, and that many of the women hold senior positions.
“Men and women in equivalent roles here earn equivalent salaries,” Mr. Carney said. “Some of the most senior positions in the White House are filled by women, including national security adviser, homeland security adviser, White House counsel, communications director, senior adviser, deputy chief of staff.”
He said that the 88-cent statistic was misleading because it aggregates the salaries of White House staff members at all levels, including the lowest levels, where women outnumber men.

In the TV judge category its probably reversed. Judge Judy makes 47 mil a year.
Yeah, for years it was Oprah as highest paid. Judy passed her a few years ago. No wonder she doesn't want to retire despite her age.

"Now the study also showed that men and women with the same White House jobs earn exactly the same salary. Now the White House said its gender pay gap is tied to job experience, education, and hours worked among other factors. This matters because those explanations, according to the Labor Department, explain a good deal of the gender pay gap nationally. The big difference in these stories: When President Obama discusses this issue nationally, he doesn't mention those other work variables, only the broad figure, that 77 cents for every dollar is what women earn compared to men," said Garrett.
"When the factors that the White House used to defend its gender pay gap are used nationally, the Labor Department says the difference in median wages between men and women shrinks to about 5 cents to 7 cents on the dollar."

Obama is a liar.

Love all these guys, but note that 6 of 7 news orgs in front row sent men to ask @pressec abt the problem of gender pay inequity.

Labor Department reports suggest that the true gap between men and women’s pay is roughly six cents per dollar, far less than the 23-cent difference routinely claimed by Obama in his speeches.

Obama pays his male White House staff roughly 12 cents more per dollar that he pays his female staff.

Worry not. In true liberal fashion, the White House pay gap will be addressed soon, I'm sure.
Less-qualified, shorter-tenured female employees will be paid more because that's "equality". Equality doesn't factor in quality or reality.
Feminists will rejoice, because Feminism is not nor has it ever been about "equality".

That's only "slightly" better? 88 is nearly halfway from 77 to 100! That kind stretches the definition of the word "slightly" doesn't it?
When Obama is the one promoting inequality, you become a proponent of "pretty garsh darn close to equal"?

discovered the biggest discrepancy in gender pay. Professional basketball. The men make 10 million dollars a year. The women are making 50K a year. They are doing the exact same job... playing pro basketball.
Average salaries are actually 5.15 million vs 72,000
The fact that the WNBA actually turns enough of a profit to pay these wildebeests more than minimum wage is astonishing. Though I suppose it helps to use NBA arenas, virtually rent free.
I'm curious though, Tuba, do you think female pro basketball players should be paid as as their male counterparts? I'll hang up and listen.

Neither 77 nor 88 is 100, Dr. Physics PhD. You're doing a bit of stretching there, yourself.
