First of all, thank Bonstonker for recording the spring game and posting it on Youtube!

I might be a minority here, but after watching the limited snaps from Rettig, I would take him over Jennings at this point. Granted he only got to attempt two passes (1 incomplete 1 complete), but both throws were equally impressive. First one, his footwork after the drop back was very smooth, and clearly he was going through his progression, and went for the target (Smith) that had the best chance without hesitation. It was just a good coverage. Second one, he showed his deep ball accuracy and decisiveness. The ball came out of his hand very quickly with velocity and was placed right on the money. One thing I particularly don't like about Jennings right now is his hesitation -- constantly taking the ball too long and hesitating between scramble and pass. Having said that, the biggest difference between Rettig and Jennings was probably the arm strength. Jennings's ball was slow and floating no matter distance, which is very pick-prone in the SEC (we all saw that in the spring game), while Rettig's pass kinda reminds me of Mett: nice touch with velocity. The only alleged advantage Jennings has was his "mobility", and yet we saw him easily getting tracked down and brought down during the Iowa game and spring game.

It's just my humble opinion, but from what I have seen so far, if the season starts today, I would take Rettig over Jennings to start, assuming that Les is reluctant to start a true freshman right out of the gate. Our offense succeeded last season with a pocket passer, so there is no obvious reason why we can't start another one. Of course if we are talking about who has the better talent in the long run, I would take Harris any day of the week: big arm, quick release, and very athletic. He only need s more time to study the offense and gain experience before lighting up the SEC. The future is bright.

I trust Coach Cam will play the best QB.

100% agreed. I don't understand why he didn't get more playing time in the spring game, with the other two not exactly setting the world on fire.

I actually just called Matt Moscona on AFR about this, and he basically said that it comes down to whether or not you trust the coaches to play the right guys based on things they see that we don't. And I'd think you could trust CCC, unless there's some meddling involved.

You are wrong, sir. I am Asian. And I don't see color becoming a factor when people called for Mett to start over JJ.

But seriously, does it bother anyone else that we ran off one pocket passer and have another buried in the depth chart in favor of "dual threat" guys, when we just had one of the best offensive years in LSU history with a statue, and still have the coach that brought out said statue's potential as a pure passer.

The coaching staffs problem with Rettig is his inability to read defenses.

It was probably due to the fact that we lack reliable receivers this year. Dural is the only reliable target we have and yet he lacks experience. Relying on a pocket passer requires a consistent input from the receiver corp. So I sort of understand why the coaching staff kinda set their mindset that we are going for a more mobile QB this year. Plus, A&M and Auburn both beat Bama with a mobile QB, which lured our coaches away from pocket passer.

That being said, after what we saw in the spring game, I think we are kinda stuck in this awkward situation where our two mobile QBs either lacks severe experience or is not as athletic or accurate as expected, and yet we don't have a consistent receiver corp to go back to the last season's offense. Who knows, we can only trust Cam.

Do you not understand why this is stupid?

i think this is a great question. prior to the jj days i would have loved to find a dual threat ala pat white, mike vick, vince young, etc but i have to admit i'm a little gun-shy now. i think we'll look back in 5-10 years and realize what a great quarterback ZM was. i have faith in cam. ZM had tons of improvement in the one year. i suspect that he can mold talent into a great quarterback--you just can't do much about some things like immobility or arm strength.

all that said, i think we'll be fine as long as cam is on board. i pray he does not leave any time soon.

It's not. Just because Mett and Rivers are big, slow, and white doesn't mean Rivers will be the same player as Mett.

Not when said coach is in charge of the offense. Why does it matter pocket vs dual threat? It should matter better vs worse.

I agree with what you are saying. My point is that it is better to have different options rather than 2 of the same

Supposedly has a pretty poor work ethic so there's a reason he's in the dog house
