Replacing hvac system next week including outside compressor, gas furnace and inside a/c stuff like evaporater coil. We're NOT getting new ductwork as a/c man said it was not needed (we have metal ductwork not flex).
We're going with Bryant 14 seer 3 ton system with the new freon. Price I'm being quoted includes new pad, new lines etc.
Price is about $5500+tax.
Does this sound about right? I think it sounds decent but I have no idea really.
We're going with Bryant b/c it gets great reviews for reliability and Carrier/Bryant parts are easy to come by. Bryant was ranked #1 by consumers digest.

I got a quote last year. I don't remember the details but that sounds about right I think.

One suggestion someone gave me was once you see you've got a year or so left on one of your AC systems, go ahead and buy a home warranty. I've got one now that will replace my whole unit and I'll be out of pocket like $45 or something.

Great idea. Will do that next time. Glad to see that price is in line. I thought so but wanted to make sure.

I've looked into it and a Home Warranty is not a bad idea, especially if you've been in your home anywhere around 10 years. Things will eventually start to break and like the old saying goes, "when it rains, it pours". One month it's the AC, well next month the water heater or the dryer or something will go kaput. Just do your homework and see what best suits your needs.

There is nothing that rustles my jimmies more than AC problems. Never met an honest ac guy.

Stupid you need a license to work on them...

Right, because any clown should be able to work on live voltage or have access to refrigerant.

No shite. He was talking safety concerns. There is ZERO reason why I shouldn't be able to do my own AC work.

Bunch of lies and cheats in the industry. Hooking up a new unit takes zero skill. I could watch a few YouTube videos and do a better job

It's always good to know how to fix things yourself, but if you aren't an experienced professional, you could really destroy your unit and house by installing it wrong.

Want some examples? Fine.

Mix freon? You just created acid that destroys your compressor.

Improper vaccuum on the line before charging? Acid

Moisture? Acid

Freon? Poisonous.

Gas heater? Boom.

Gas heater improperly vented? Kill your family with carbon monoxide poisoning.

Just a few. Smartass.

Wasn't being a smartass. Just a question. I could also dump gasoline in my garage and set it on fire. Guess we need laws so I can't mow the grass too.

I am not only an a/c guy but I'm licensed. You're right about one thing, lots of dirty contractors out there.

Specifically one hour.
