How does it rate as a series in comparison with The Shield, The Wire, Breaking Bad, etc?

I think it is in the discussion with those. It might not be better (especially BB or The Wire), but it is in the conversation.

Justified is great. It's not quite on that level of the shows you mentioned, but it's close.

Show is good but vastly overrated by the fanatics.

very good show. not on level with BB but I do think Raylan is the coolest character on TV and Walton Goggins is fantastic as Boyd.

Let me clarify what others are saying:
Seasons 1, 3, 4, and 5 are all a cut below the Wire, the Shield, and Breaking Bad.
Season 2 may be the best television I've ever seen. That may be overstating it, but not by much. It is astounding.
And Season 3 is very good, as is Season 1. Season 4 falters a bit, in my opinion, even though it has one of the best episodes of the show and Patton Oswalt in it. Season 5 has been good as well, but not quite as good as season 3.

Very good show, but not on the same level as the ones you mentioned.
VERY good show. Basically, imagine if the "If you're not out of town by sundown, I'm gonna put you down" style Old West Deputy U.S. Marshal with an "ends justifies the means" (get it?) mentality existed in modern day Appalachia...

Big fan of the show. The other three shows you listed are my three favorite dramas ever, so I wouldn't put it with them. But still definitely worth a watch.

The show overall is enjoyable, but the screentime shared by Boyd and Raylan is second to none. I've never enjoyed seeing two characters go at it as much as those two. It's a treat anytime they interact with one another.

There are some other really good characters besides Boyd and Raylan.

It's a great show. But it would be so much better if HBO had it. The constraints of the regular cable channels are holding it back some.

The dialogue of the show is awesome. I don't really consider myself a connoisseur of great TV. I usually just watch it if I like it. Never really got into a show like I did Justified.
