The 5% Nation and Media Culture

I saw this on Drudge and found it a little interesting.
If a mainstream white celebrity, like Justin Timberlake, were to wear a medallion or some other reference to some faction of the Arian Brotherhood or the like, how much more play would it get in the media? I am guessing a little. (that is not to mention that Jay Z is personal friends with our president).

quote:
Black people are the fathers and mothers of civilization, white men are the devil, the Christian god is nothing more than a ghost and only a small percentage of people understand the world.
These are just some of the beliefs behind the bling — the gaudy Five Percent Nation medallions worn by Jay Z and Carmelo Anthony.
Last week, all eyes at the Barclays Center weren’t on Jay Z’s better half, Beyoncé — but on the coaster-size golden pendant swinging from the rapper’s neck as the couple sat courtside. Asked once if the group’s symbol — an eight-pointed star with the number 7 in the middle — held any meaning for him, the rapper shrugged, “A little bit.”
So what exactly do Five Percenters believe?
“The rationale is that the black man is God and created the universe, and is physically stronger and intellectually stronger and more righteous naturally,” says Michael Muhammad Knight, an author of two books on the radical group.
“Whiteness is weak and wicked and inferior — basically just an errant child who needs to be corrected.”
The group was founded in 1964 in Harlem by Clarence Smith, who later changed his name to Allah, a former student of Malcolm X who disagreed with the Nation of Islam over the nature of God.
Smith rejected the notion of a supernatural deity and instead believed that all black men had God in them and that black women were “earths” who took on a complementary yet subordinate role to their gods.

Maybe I'm a bit "off" about "black culture," and someone better versed can come in here and correct, but my observation is there is a "respect" given to just about any movement/leader who "stands up for" their people, and that the specific beliefs of such group are seldom considered or really cared about.
Its more important that someone stood up to the oppressors and not the particular reasons why they do so.
OR MAYBE THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT ME TO THINK!
In this example, the founder of the group might actually believe all this stuff, but Jay-Z just respects him for countering the oppression in the first instance.

Maybe so...or maybe he is a militant racist that no longer feels the need to really hide that fact because he knows he will never been called on the carpet.

Ya, maybe, but I don't really care either way. I doubt anything Jay-Z believes will ever affect me.

Didn't really work out so well for Germany when they felt that way about the Nazi party.

I don't want to create a shite storm, but this is akin to publicly hanging a confederate flag for all to see.
Whatever if may mean to you is not always what it means to others but more power to you because it is your right.

"intellectually stronger"
I'm not saying blacks are intellectually inferior, but to make a blanket statement that they are somehow measurably superior flies in the face of modern reality.

Meh, let me know when black people [or any other non-white group] start oppressing white people in this country. Ima take a little nap...

My understanding of the real roots of the 5% Nation is that it is very closely akin to the US Nation of Islam (as led by Farrakan) and other groups like the Nation of Yisrael.
They are basically thought processes that have a main proselytizing mechanism is prisons.
Pretty clever actually - you take young, black males that are incarcerated and that have no father figure and you explain to them that all of their problems are not of their own doing. You further explain that most of their problems are actually the result of another easily identifiable entity - in this case white people.
You then point to actual past wrongs of whites towards blacks to drive home your point.
Perception then becomes reality for these individuals and once that happens, you are more willing to take as gospel other bullshite that is patently absurd on its face to any rational person.
In the case of a guy like Jay Z, however you have a person "representing" the 5% Nation that should know better.

How can they be fathers of civilization when a majority of them aren't even fathers to their own children

It doesn't bother you that a significant portion of the black population is into such tinfoil hat paranoia?

There is plenty of paranoia to go around among all ethnic groups in the US. What flies all over me is that some ethnic groups are allowed to enjoy the expression of their peculiar and outlandish beliefs without recourse, while others are not - for no other reason that political correctness - which is actuality is simply suppression of one view point to the benefit of another.
In the present liberal culture, white liberals don't say anything about outlandish and racist actions and beliefs of blacks because they fear losing their votes in mass.

Oh no!! There are black people who don't believe they are awful!!

About as much as it bothers me that so many white people are into a bunch of tinfoil hat paranoia/conspiracy theories.
ie, not much.

First of all, no other ethnic group besides white people has engaged in as much genocide, bondage and oppression. Until there's some evidence of actual danger, it won't generate as much concern.
Secondly...
quote:

..."political correctness" carries NO legal authority. The more you fall for it, the more power you give them.
quote:

...know that ultimately white people are in charge of this country, and no matter how outlandish other ethnic groups act, it's still up to white people how they will be affected by it - legally.

Did that idea seem intelligent when it formed in your head?? So not believing you are awful is equal to feeling you are superior in every way?? Classic

Africa much?? Black people do it to their own at a much higher rate and much more brutally than anything a white man ever did here
