QB situation

I clearly understand the development process of young QBs but it's hard to be optimistic about unexperienced QBs in the SEC. I have a strong feeling that's its going to be a long year.

strong feelings are always the best feelings

Almost everybody has an unexperienced QB in the SEC this year. Unless you think Auburn's string of insane luck is going to make a come back this year, I can't imagine what "experienced" SEC QB you think people should have faith in. Do you think Driskel is going to come back and put out the dumpster fire that is Florida's offense or something?

Of course it's going to be a long season at QB. Anyone who has any other expectations is ignorant. Best you can hope for is to see development throughout the season. It's unfair to have expectations these guys can come in and just tear it up without having any experience in the SEC.
It's not all going to be on the QBs though. I'll bet this board goes ballistic on how many dropped balls we have from WRs. They had plenty of really good back shoulder passes or passes away from defenders that were dropped in the spring game. Dural is really the only decent WR we have right now and even he dropped some balls he should've caught early on in the spring game. I think WR is going to be the bigger issue. Hoping we utilize Desean Smith because he seems to have really soft hands.
I'm not sold on our WRs and think it will be the biggest struggle on the team this year. I'm hoping Quinn or Dupre can come in and just tear it up. Maybe Quinn because he seems more polished but it's probably an unrealistic expectation. Just imagine how many more passes Harris would've completed if he had a guy like Dupre who could go up for his passes. I'm pretty sure if either of these guys come in and show they can digest the playbook fast, they're going to be starting. We have no #2 right now.

Wow, truly a new take on this! I'm mesmerized by your intelligence.
If you aren't keeping track, just about everyone is breaking in a young QB in the SEC this year....

Stop being sane and rational. Take out the panic button and start slamming it until your arm falls off.

I was waiting for someone to bring this up because I noticed the same thing Saturday. I'm a very hard critic of TD because I coached him for 3 years in HS. I expect him to make those tough catches that he let hit the ground because I have seen him make some insane plays (and make them look effortless). I can assure you, he will make more of those tough catches than he drops. He's a determined kid and will spend every day trying to perfect his game.

IMO, it would be much longer w/o Cam.

If we get average QB play this year, Cameron would have done a great job.

This is just me, but I think we get wayyyyy to caught up in the QB stuff. LSU has done pretty well since 08, 53-13, while having limited QB play for the most part.
I don't see why we cant gave another fine season with the running game we should have and a QB who makes the normal plays needed to move the chains.
I've been hearing this "long year" stuff for a good while now, but in the last 4 yrs we are winning 83% of all games and we have as many SEC wins in that period as Bama.
Things can change, but I think we will be ok.

It is threads like this that make me absolutely loathe the spring game. All the spring game leads to is 5 months of speculation about pointless conclusions drawn from a scrimmage.
If the spring game meant 2 shits, Richard Murphy would have been an All-American.
Don't base an opinion about ANYTHING you might see in the fall, solely based on the spring game.

Nice response. Well put.

Some ranters are simply gonna rant regardless, but QB is the spotlight position.
I agree, LSU has had a lot of recent success with mediocre QB play. A lot of people have the NC or bust mentality and realize that although you can reach 10 wins with a mediocre QB, it's pretty difficult to make it to the ship.

This is supposed to be a consolation? I'll trade a few wins for some more hardware...but that's another thread.
I do agree with you in that we will be fine this year with what we bring to the table.

I hope we can have a Michigan State type of year. Win early with your run game and defense, then your QB first year starting QB gradually gets better and becomes and asset at the end.
If people don't know what I'm talking about, Connor Cook was a RS sophomore in his first year starting with about as much experience as AJ. He was pretty up and down all year and then turned it on the last few games and won the conference championship and the Rose Bowl. Finished the season with over 2700 pass yards and 22 TDs to 6 ints. Added another 2 TDs on the ground.
I think if we can let our QBs grow early, they have the talent to put us over the top.

It's the season where all is well if we have a heavy dose of running the football.
