...and on that same day, looks like he also appeared on a U.S. Chamber of Commerce ad endorsing the curriculum and national standards.

Governor's office apparently ain't too happy.

I don't know much about CC but I found this...

It's a UN Agenda

And it's a site run by a Democrat.

CC is ridiculous, at least according to my fiance who teaches 1st in EBR.

Takes away from the teachers making creative lesson plans, because everything has structure which can be good, but the structure has no real thought process put into it.

My fiance explained to me the object of CC is group work and the kids teaching each other, not the teacher who has the training and the knowledge to spread to young minds. So instead you have a bunch of kids that might not understand fully wtf is going on, teaching each other.

That's just a small caveat of what is going on with CC. I could go further, but I imagine everyone that will comment here will have something to say about it, mostly negative I imagine.

Also see the yahoo article on the CC math problem the EE wife posted two weeks ago.

I really think he is just hedging his bet.

Your description from your wife makes CC sound like a resurrection of some teaching philosophies from Dr. Spock (Benjamin Spock, not Mr. Spock). Also has some J.J. Rouseau. Both efforts pushed in the 60s failed.

In Tennessee, common core seems to be one if the few government initiatives that may actually be less popular than Obamacare. People absolutely hate it.

His bet for what? Seems like being education reform is probably his most touted accomplishment, there shouldn't be a need to hedge any bets.

I cant get a straight answer on what CC is trying to accomplish.. Ive seen some examples that are horrendous but others that are reasonable. The Math examples and style seem odd and non-precise which seem contrary to what math is supposed to be. The thought experiments with Social Studies seem o.k. but are dependent on the way the question is worded. Some questions seem to lead kids against accepted fact.

The math is just flat out terrible. Math was always my best subject. I can't help my kids with their homework because the methods being taught are just horrendous and make zero sense.
