Before US shale oil this would have been a huge blow. Now, not so much. As a matter of fact, this would help keep the USD from skyrocketing when the US becomes a net energy exporter in 5-10 yrs.

Most estimates indicate the US GDP is about $16 billion, and Russia's is 2.5-3 billion. That's all you need to know to realize that the US dollar isn't going away anytime soon.

China is much bigger but Putin is definitely the junior partner.
