I used to like rap/hip hop in Middle/High School. Now I'm almost done with college and all the new rap songs suck IMO. I can't think of a rap song I've liked that's come out in the past few years. I can't tell if Rap has changed recently or if I'm just getting too old for it.

There are still a handful of artists that I enjoy, but for the most part it's shite.

You're talking about your musical taste from an age of 12 to 22.

It didn't change much. You just got older

More like from 16/17 to 22 but I kinda figured it was just me getting older. It wasn't a gradual change though. I went from liking it for the most part to not liking much of anything in about a year or two.

I don't like Drake, he's got a couple good songs, but where he tries to sing the chorus for 100 times in a row, it just ruins everything.

Kendrick is alright. Nothing special to me though. He's probably the best out there right now.

A lot of artists are delving into I think what is called trap? I don't know what the frick the word is, but it's a terrible sub genre /concept that hip hop artists are incorporating into their music. Like I said in another thread I started, Tech n9ne is actually using rock and metal and using them flawlessly in his rap and it sounds awesome. That is the kind of uniqueness and enginuity that I think makes a hip hop artist great. His ability to make great references and lyrics and also have solid synths along with it.

If Kendrick, ASAP, schoolboy Q and problem hold up for a little while it's on good hands.

Kendrick Lamar and Chief Keef is the only new rap I listen to.

Kendrick because he's awesome, Chief Keef and his crew because they're some fricking gangsters.

It's been dead as a doorknob for about 15 years. Biggie, Tupac, and Snoop were the last artists that consistently made good stuff. The 80s and especially the 90s were a time when the genre was quite strong. Lots of quality music that even people who weren't really rap/hip hop fans liked. However, like most music since the late 90s, it has been utter crap since. Just embarrassingly bad since the late 90s.

When Lil Wayne is considered one of your top artists you know the genre has hit rock bottom.

Raps biggest problem is the over saturation. Will the easy ability to get songs on the internet now, theres so many crappy rappers/songs. That makes up avout 90 percent of it

There have been quite a few good to great rappers, and young Lil Wayne is one of them. Anything his past 4-5 years has been crap, but if you like rap music then you realize the talent he had when he actually tried.

Eminem, Jay Z, Nas also say Hi
