La Sheriffs fear that lesser marijuana penalties lead to decriminalization

I think they meant to say it leads to lesser revenues.

Poor sheriffs. They are scared they will be forced to cut back in staff and as a result lose power in the parish.

A look through the weekly crime stats in Bossier and Caddo parish shows that roughly 10-20% of the arrests/court cases are for marijuana penalties.

Legalize drugs and there will be far less crime for them to police anyhow.

I wish someone would call him out on the implication:

So what you're saying is that the reduction of penalties will work so well that people will then push for full decriminalization, and that is why you are against it?

it's going to take alot of public support for this to happen. and not by the hipster smokers and you college age students but the 30-45yr old voters are going to have to speak out to make politicians notice that people want change

La Sherrifs Assoc, DAs Assoc and the contract prison lobby killed that bill. They are not going to let that revenue stream go, its like the legal mafia.
