Is the last year before the Astros owner moves them to The Woodlands?

Will be tough to keep minor league baseball in New Orleans, the stadium was not kept up, it was nice when it first opened.

Part of the reason Maestri went back to UNO

Serious question....how many teams have the Zephyrs been affiliated with down through the years?

I can think of Astros, Marlins, Brewers, Nationals, and Pirates (I think). Kinda hard to build a fanbase when the parent club changes so many times.

Once Round Rock was Triple A, the Z's were screwed because there was no other parent club on the market nearby.

There was talk last year about them dropping to Double A and playing in that Southern League with Mississippi and Birmingham.

Also talk of Benson building a AA stadium where the downtown post office is now to maximize Champions Square revenue year round, and take advantage of the residential boom downtown with South Market and other projects coming online.

Biloxi is getting a AA team.

Double A could be more interesting. You get a lot of guys in Triple A who are no-name journeymen who already missed the chance to be in The Show. There are possibly more future stars coming through Double A. Very rarely will you get that Late-90s Zephyrs team with Berkman, Ward, Hidalgo, etc. on a Triple A team for an extended period. A lot of the guys you get are those 34 year old first basemen that might have played briefly in the major leagues seven years ago.

Rare occasion you get a big league guy on a rehab assignment. AA team would be awesome.

I think a AA park would be awesome downtown. Would be a great site for big high school/college games, and would still have some atmoshpere being a smaller park.

Zephyr Stadium is one of the shittiest ballparks in the Pacific Coast League. Yeah, it was great 15 or so years ago when it opened, but they have not kept up with the times at all. I used to work there in high school and the inner workings are horrible, trust me.

They are renovating the park to extend the seating all the way to the outfield and make improvements to the concourse area. This will be a very telling year for attendance as well.

Attendance has been shitty for the past couple years. All the rehab assigned players are sent to AA now so that doesn't draw much. Only reason I really go now is for Thirsty Thursday and mess with the bullpen players.

I go to about 3-5 games a year. It's an okay experience. That's just a shitty place to have a ballpark. Nothing to do before or after games. No places to eat except a shitty McDonalds.
