I'm starting a garden in the corner of my yards and want a bunch of blackberry bushes since I don't have to take care of them to flourish. Where do I find them around Mandeville or New Orleans?

Go to Folsom Co-Op. Buy the ones without thorns and call them to make sure they are in stock before heading over there.

Yes. Call them first and if they don't have them they will be able to tell you who does. Make sure you get the ones without thorns because they have been genetically engineered to produce huge blackberries and you don't have to worry about getting stuck.

I was planning on getting a variety of blackberry types, but I will be sure to get some of those if they have them

Which variety is this? I've been browsing for some myself.

I've already taken the dive with some blueberry bushes. Hope they crank some out in a couple months.

I don't know what the name is other thn blackberry bushes without stickers. Just ask the Co-Op or feed store for them and they will know what you are looking for. Here is a link I found after a quick Google search.

I honestly don't know as I haven't purchased one in years. I had so many wild bushes I never really worried about it anyway. Wild ones also don't produce every year but when you have a number of them severl are alwyas putting out.

Any co-op, gardening store, even Walmart has a few varieties.

I'm planting blackberry, blueberry, apple trees, peach trees, pear trees, plums, and muscadine vines.

I'm building a dome shape enclosure with chicken wire and T post so I can harvest the muscadine so from underneath and also on top of the vines.

I'm transplanting plums and muscadine a from my dad's house.

That doesn't sound bad. How big are they? Are you going to put a trellis in for them to climb up?

gurneys.com is a good site as well.

Just order 2 variety of cherry bushes from them, and some seedless concord grapes. Getting a couple dozen blueberry bushes in 2 varieties from a place up in Michigan as well. I'll be juicing like hell next yr.

Some look better than others. I wanted 8 of them, so I wasn't going to be picky given they only had 6

Lattice work for them to climb

And my satsuma trees I planted this weekend

I have Apache plants. They will not make this year, unless those are 2nd year canes. if they are, you should get a few. The real payoff will begin next summer.

Apache blackberries are some of the biggest. They will be as big around as your thumb and about half as long. They taste great; just let them FULLY ripen on the vine or they will be tart. My only complaint is the seeds, which are also large. Don't break a tooth.

Apache is fully erect, not trailing. So they will not use the trellis. But it may come in handy next year, providing good tie points. The vines get really heavy and cannot always fully support the weight of the berries. With 8 plants, you will get more berries than you thought possible. I have 12 and we froze probably 50 pounds last year. Four times that went bad on the vines. This year I will have a friend make blackberry wine with what we cannot use.

Oh, and watch out for this guy. He will wipe you out.
