Disney announced today that their Oscar-winning blockbuster Frozen is now the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, surpassing Disney-Pixar's Toy Story 3 for the top spot. Frozen is also now among the top 10 highest grossing movies ever.

According to the studio, Frozen has made an estimated $398.4 million at the domestic box office and $674 million internationally. It also recently made a splash on Blu-ray.

Frozen -- which stayed in the domestic top 10 for 16 consecutive weeks, the longest run by any film since 2002 -- is the first billion-dollar film for Walt Disney Animation Studios and its first film to receive the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Refuse to watch this because of everyone going nuts over it.

I have to say that no one saw this film being this wildly successful coming. Really happy it is, since this is the type of entertainment I want young girls growing up with, and not simply wait for Prince Charming to come and sweep you off your feet.

Agreed.

In an environment/world where the female sex is becoming increasingly hostile to each other, this film is a good reminder of what should be accepted and practiced daily with female companionship and stewardship.

My family and I finally watched it last week. We don't see what was so great about the movie. I'd take the Lion King and the Little Mermaid over Frozen. I love the cartoon music and singing but there was entirely too much of it in Frozen. Plus there wasn't an epic villain in this movie.

But that's not the point of the film. Its a story about two sisters overcoming the barriers to their relationship. I don't see why an epic villain is needed for this since most the movie is basically man vs himself.

When was the last time you watched the Little Mermaid or the the Lion King?

Those are staples around my house and Frozen holds up pretty well in comparison. It's definitely better than the Little Mermaid and is just as good if not better than the Lion King.

Right.

It's more down to Earth. No clear cut good versus evil. The antagonist are realistic selfish characters while the protagonists are separated by a lack of understanding of one another.

I'd certainly put Frozen over the Little Mermaid, since I think Ariel is a pretty terrible example of a woman for young girls to follow. Really she's just a stupid girl who does stupid shite, risks everything for a hunk of man meat she doesn't even know, almost dooms them all, and doesn't learn jack shite in the end. She just got the stud she wanted, and frick the repercussions. It really could have been Gaston as the love interest, and it's still the same story.

I'd put the Lion King over frozen though. Maybe its nostalgia, but I like it more than Frozen. Frozen is still in the Top 5 Disney films though.

Geez...here we go, again. I am sure, without even looking, that Frozen is not as successful as many other animated films. You must look at tickets sold and adjust for inflation.

There's no way this movie is better than Lion King or Aladdin.

Right. The wide-eyed, daring protagonist is great and all but her consistent rejection of responsibility and her impulsive infatuation get rewarded at the end of the movie. Plus, Eric is a character void of any substance.

Yeah, Lion King is great. The music is great in both. The Loin King has the more epic plot whereas Frozen has the better characters.

Was coming here to post this.

It would take about 40 people seeing Snow White in 1937 to equal the money produced by 1 person seeing Frozen in 2014. Not to mention all the DOZENS of re-releases of Snow White and other Disney movies over the last 70 years.
