Good to hear you saw it in a medium that the director didn't want you to see it in.

It was good on 60 inch high def in a dark room. Not sure why an oscar nomination was warranted

This comparrison is just blasphemous. All Gravity wanted to do is give you the best cinematic experience possible. It was not meant to be shown in the comfort of your own living room. Simply being in a familiar environment ruins Gravity. Its goal was to completely immerse you into space and make you hold your breath and clench your a-hole at all times. That was its only goal.

Avatar wanted to be on the home medium though, and by that I mean launch and industry, manipulate everyone, and make billions of dollars. There is maliciousness to how Avatar was written, filmed, and marketed. Gravity had none of this.

No it wasn't. You're in the familiarity of your living room. This ruins the environment Cuaron is trying to immerse you in. The sheer fact that you are in your own home disservices the atmosphere the film is providing you. If you didn't hold your breath or clench your a-hole multiple times during the movie, then you were watching it wrong.

All I know is my wife has begged me to rent this movie for some time now. After the end of the movie, she just went to bed all pissed off especially how it ended.

They can now do Cast Away 2 with Sandra Bullock the way the movie ended.

If you don't think it was Oscar warranted, then I think its safe to say you didn't get the movie. I can't blame you though since you didn't see it how it was intended to be seen.

I didn't think it was great, but the visuals and cinematography kept my interest. Apollo 13 and Armegeddon were much more entertaining.

Well, she was right on the line, and in a stronger year she wouldn't have made the lists. I think that's more to do with what she was up against than her actual performance. It was a good quality performance, but she didn't deserve the win for sure.

Which is how it was meant to be seen. Gravity is not meant for home viewing. Alfonso Cuaron's sole purpose was to make a film worth going to a movie theater to see. He succeeded.
